THE axway, the market leader in data flow governance, publishes its Top 10 IT Predictions for 2016, which focus on how organizations can prepare for Digital Journey, improving operational efficiency, reimagining the customer experience and creating new business models.

"To survive and succeed, organizations will need a robust integration foundation that can unify the virtual and physical worlds to connect people, businesses and things, while gaining actionable insights from real-time data streams," says Jeanine Banks, CEO of Axway's Global Products and Solutions. Check out the company’s 10 predictions for 2016:

1.    Unpredictability will become a core competence: the Increasing regulatory and competitive pressures are constantly creating a new business standard. Organizations will embrace unpredictability – the idea that there really is no standard – and leverage data analytics and integration technology to rapidly innovate in new and unexpected ways.

2.    APIs will be as pervasive as electricity: Driven by the growth of cloud services, mobile devices and the Internet of Things, the adoption of APIs will be similar to the use of electricity: it will be not only widespread, but also necessary to develop in the digital economy. From both external use cases, such as linking cloud applications with on-premises systems, to internal use cases, where automating processes in backend is needed, organizations will accelerate their use of APIs to keep pace with the innovation curve.

3.    The context will determine a great user experience: with customers in control, digital technologies will enable instant purchase of anything from any supplier with delivery anywhere. And, organizations will need to be able to offer personalized experiences or a unique channel that seamlessly transitions between the physical and virtual worlds. Data about customer activity, behavior and purchase patterns, enhanced by social graphs, will be used to customize each and every digital moment to the customer's needs.

4.    Supply chains will be optimized through digital payments: cWith digital technologies transforming traditional business value chains and supplying an ever-expanding network of suppliers, organizations will invent new digital products and retailers will find new ways to apply loyalty programs that go far beyond simply collecting points. These new opportunities will be possible thanks to innovative business models that will enable new forms of connectivity and cooperation between business partners.

5.    Mobility alone will no longer lead to solid digital strategies: next year a mobile application will no longer constitute, in or by itself, a digital strategy. Organizations will focus on how they can incorporate digital technologies to go beyond functional efficiencies to make entirely new business models possible. As organizations begin to think more holistically, the focus will shift to digital enablement and how the foundational enterprise technology foundation can support digital connectivity, services and experience.

6.    Microservices reach the enterprise, but with a systematic approach to governance: the explosion of microservices architecture will force organizations to consider operational challenges. While the benefits are driving demand (service isolation for rapid, asynchronous and continuous delivery), companies will evolve their service development and operations methodologies towards a DevOps approach.

7.    Banks will be disruptively digital: banks will experiment with digital capabilities as customers look for new offerings. Startups have been making a lot of noise in the financial sector recently and banks, traditionally seen as traditional and highly regulated, are embracing technologies like APIs to drive new functionality into the digital age. of the technology of blockchain to usables, banks around the world will navigate the global complexity to meet startup innovations.

8.    Cloud computing is not an "all or nothing" strategy: organizations that fear moving fully to the cloud will find they don't have to. Hybrid cloud will become the IT model of choice as CIOs choose to move just a few systems to the cloud while simultaneously embracing a variety of cloud-native applications such as ServiceNow, Salesforce and Workday.

9.    The reality of a digital journey will begin: As companies venture into digital initiatives, they will encounter difficulties. Digital leaders will find that their ability to master a roadmap comprised of focused projects with measurable return in the boardroom is critical to their longevity. Yet the most successful executives will drive the forefront of innovation by elegantly bringing together business models and experiences.

10. Integration experts will win: As the Internet of Things matures, mobile devices foster instant gratification, big data grows and APIs proliferate, new ecosystems of partners and developers will form. From wearable devices to smart machines, companies in all industries will drive the dominance of integration and be able to securely connect anything, removing boundaries between the physical and virtual worlds to achieve new business models in the digital world.
