Autodesk and Mattel have announced an exclusive agreement to advance the Mattel toy line with state-of-the-art 3D design and 3D printing technology.

The joint initiative will provide a new experience combining toys with digital adventures. An upcoming series of apps will empower consumers to imagine, design and customize their own toys and help make toys real through 3D printing.

“Autodesk uses 3D design and printing to unlock creativity around the world. Partnering with an iconic brand like Mattel gives us an opportunity to demonstrate how Spark, our open 3D printing platform, can deliver amazing experiences for both digital and physical worlds ", said Samir Hanna, Autodesk vice president and general manager of consumer and 3D printing.

The unique collaboration aims to bring hands-on design experiences to support an interactive learning environment through fun apps so kids can also learn while playing.

"We are constantly inspired by the passion and creativity we see among children around the world. Technology changes daily, and by leveraging Mattel's gaming experience and Autodesk's expertise in creative applications and 3D printing, we are able to offer a new kind of 3D design experience, continuing Mattel's legacy of inspiring imagination and creativity," said Doug Wadleigh, senior vice president and general manager of global brand, Toy Box, at Mattel.
