Students from all over the world will work on the theme "Right to Oblivion"

Atos, an international leader in digital services and a global IT partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announces the fifth edition of the IT Challenge, the first international technology competition created for university students. Applications are open until the 30th of November.

This year's theme invites students to solve one of the biggest puzzles of the 21st century: how to manage our personal data online so that we can enjoy what the digital world has to offer while protecting our privacy and the right to be forgotten. Depending on the situation, the person can ask for their data to be “forgotten” and thus completely erased by the providers.

“Managing our own digital identities is a current problem. That's why in 2016, Atos invites students from all over the world to try to help us find new ways of technology to protect our data online, also guaranteeing the right to be forgotten. Our IT Challenge contest provides students with an excellent opportunity to turn their ideas into something real and tangible and even introduce them to the market,” says Grapinet Gilles, Senior Executive Vice President, Global Functions at Atos.

For the first time, both the winner and finalists will receive cash prizes – €10,000, €5,000 and €3,000 respectively – aimed at facilitating the commercialization of their applications, along with the support and advice of a team of Atos Business Technologists.

“The IT Challenge is a challenging contest, because it seeks to improve the life of the community, encourages teamwork and encourages research and development of new technologies. In addition, students will compete with people from other countries, with the most diverse cultures, promoting the exchange of experiences”, says Francisco Fay, director of Human Resources and Corporate Communication at Atos in South America.

The rules

• During the first phase, aimed at registration, which ends on November 30, 2015, students will be invited to present the technology and architecture they will use to create the app, explaining later in the second phase, how to develop them.
• The jury, made up of members of the Atos scientific community, a global network of around 100 of the company's best business technicians, will select a first list of 15 teams.
• The selected teams will be announced in December and will move on to the second phase, which consists of developing the application.
• In May 2016, the 15 teams will present their applications, and the finalists will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in June, where the winner and two runners-up will be announced.
• The contest is open to students from all over the world, who must participate as teams of two to four members.
• All IT Challenge participants will be invited to apply for internship positions to work at Atos.

The IT Challenge is part of the WellBeing@Work initiative and aims to stimulate and develop talent. It is a project started in 2012 with the intention of promoting innovation in new generations of IT professionals. Today, the event is already consolidated in the calendar of partner universities.
