Aimed at disseminating and promoting social impact businesses in Brazil, Artemisia (www.artemisia.org.br) announced at 10 startups that started the acceleration process in March. The organization selects and accelerates companies that intentionally offer scalable solutions to the social problems of the low-income population. In the Education area, the selected ones are Conecta Mundo, Educareer and Sementes Brilhantes; in Sanitation, Ectas Saneamento; in Saúde, Mobilià, Casa Ângela and MedCloud; in Financial Services, EWally, Controly and Biva.
 
Among the selection criteria, we highlight businesses created by entrepreneurs with a genuine intention to change Brazil for the better, with a history of accomplishments and the ability to attract talent and develop a consistent team to work in social impact businesses focused on health, education, services. financial, housing, employability and assistive technology. Products and services must be designed to improve the quality of life of the low-income population.
 
According to Débora Basso, coordinator of Acceleration at Artemisia, the businesses selected in the first class of 2015, although they are from different sectors – financial services, education, sanitation and health – have as a common trait innovation aligned with market opportunities. “This year, we have seen the growth of innovative ideas in financial services for the low-income, which is a result of national regulation of mobile payment methods. In this class, the average age of the entrepreneur is 40 years old”, says the executive.
 
In the last four years, Artemisia articulated, with the Acceleradora program, R$ 32 million for 59 accelerated deals; of these, 46% received investment. In 10 years of operation, the organization has consolidated its expertise in accelerating social impact businesses in a short period of time and enhancing startups to receive investments and achieve large-scale economic and social results. The Artemisia Accelerator program is currently the one with the best track record from the country.

Founded in 2002, Ectas offers compact plants for the treatment of domestic, commercial and industrial effluents. In practice, it allows the reuse of water for non-potable purposes. With the same technology already developed, the MiniTrat appeared (patent in process); the product – which was supported by CNPQ and Instituto Euvaldo Lodi for development – can be easily installed in a home and replaces a septic tank with more efficiency, safety and similar price. MiniTrat is a business line aimed at families that do not have access to sanitation.

Founded in 2011 by physicist Paulo Mascarenhas, Conecta Mundo offers a hybrid learning solution based on a digital platform with a social network interface and offers teachers practical training in which they create a project using digital tools and apply it in the classroom. of class. This allows the school to effectively incorporate technology into the teaching/learning process. The solution was approved by MEC Technologies Guide, and is in use in public, private, and publishing schools.

Founded in 2014 by entrepreneurs Daniel Sgambatti and Rafael Pinto, EduCareer offers a solution web mobile for the reduction of dropout in private higher education, attacking its main causes: for the choice of course, it offers a professional guidance service; for low performance, it offers leveling content; and for the preparation for the job market, it offers behavioral skills development workshops and promotes direct connection.
 
BRIGHT SEEDS (São Paulo – SP) 
Founded in 2015 by Glaucia Maciel, Sementes Brilhantes da Steps is an affordable educational technology system to optimize the integral development of children in early childhood, consisting of kits of differentiated materials and toys, integrated training and interactive manuals. This program is being developed based on Steps' 12 years of experience (www.stepsbabylounge.com.br) and uses the principles of neuroeducation, multiple intelligences and expressive languages. The Sementes Brilhantes pilot will begin in July 2015 in three affiliated day care centers in São Paulo.

Founded in 2014 by entrepreneurs Guilherme Cunha and Júlio César Souza, Mobilità applies technology to improve the management of public health programs. THE startup offers solutions for the control and transparency of information on the population served – reducing the asymmetry of information between all the different actors that are part of these health programs, from the patient to the public manager.

Founded in 2010 by André Cunha, the company offers micro-entrepreneurs a simple and inexpensive way to receive payments: the cell phone. the application of EWally turns the cell phone into a POS (point of sale); the money received stays in a virtual account and can be withdrawn at ATMs – or used with a prepaid debit card (Visa or MasterCard).
