Portal ABES interviewed Daniela Costa, vice president of sales for Latin America at Arcserve, one of the largest software companies for data protection and recovery, which has just joined ABES. Founded in 1990, Arcserve, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, has an active customer base of 43,000 in more than 50 countries. The company also has more than 7,500 distributors, resellers and service providers globally.

What are the company's plans for the Brazilian market?
Arcserve Brasil sees a very big business opportunity for the domestic market, despite the political and economic scenarios not being the most favorable in recent years. The opportunity is due to the fact that the company has a unique, very differentiated and affordable solution – Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP), to meet customer demands for solutions to ensure business continuity.
The reality we witness today in Brazil is that few companies already have reliable solutions for the protection and recovery of data, applications and systems. The massification of issues associated with disaster recovery, implementation of more comprehensive security and contingency policies, is still necessary, especially in the segment of small and medium-sized companies.
Our focus as Arcserve Brasil is precisely to help companies make companies aware of the importance of making investments to protect their most important assets, data, as well as the use of technology in favor of enhancing the competitive advantages that a company can achieve, ensuring availability 24 ×7 of your services and your business to your customers.
This attitude is very positive, but we cannot forget to mention that in this globalized world where the Internet, mobility and the new world of applications play crucial roles in the success of a company. The availability of data and services can ensure an organization's survival in the market.

What are the main products and services in the company's portfolio?
We have 4 products: Arcserve Unified Data Protection, Arcserve Backup, Arcserve Replication and Arcserve High Availability. Arcserve Unified Data Protection, as I mentioned, is our latest product and is currently the focus of the company. It is a unique solution to recover data and systems in hybrid environments: physical, virtual and/or in the cloud. With UDP, we moved from thinking about just “creating backup routines” to thinking about “developing recovery plans” that go beyond traditional backup. The key point of UDP is the tool's ability to support the implementation of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan for companies of any industry or size. It is worth remembering that UDP has a free version that can be implemented on desktops and notebooks.

3. From a business point of view, what is the return that the company gets by providing a free edition of its software for backup and recovery of data, applications and systems, Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP)?
With the launch of the free version, we are doing our part in terms of raising awareness among people, professionals and companies, helping to put into practice the concepts of security and protection, which can guarantee the recovery of data and critical systems of a person or company. . Although Arcserve has been in the market for over 20 years, UDP is a new product, which brings with it a new methodology (recovery plan management) and innovative technology (infinite incremental backups, global source deduplication, bare metal recovery, among others). Promoting and using the free version will help us build brand awareness and value.

What are the main advances and challenges in the data security market in Brazil and worldwide?
A Gartner Group survey showed a 7.9% increase over 2013 in global information security spending. The data loss prevention segment records the fastest growth at 18.9% which proves that there is a greater concern for business continuity. Still according to Gartner, only 6% of the total of companies that suffer any type of disaster with their information survive after 2 years. Immediate financial losses and long-term losses have made companies rethink the issue of prevention. That's why there is a lot of room to grow in this market, mainly in Brazil and Latin America as a whole. We want to continuously reduce the complexity and clutter in our customers' data protection infrastructures, offering complete, simple and cost-effective solutions for companies of all sizes and segments.

How many employees does the company have in Brazil and the main customers?
We are currently 9 employees in Brazil. Among our main reference clients we have Mackenzie, Leroy Merlin, Degremónt, Cultura Inglesa, Mcassab, Ingram Micro, Cipasa and Nassal Construtora.
