Free, the app provides instructions for the effective management of corporate software licenses, reducing non-compliance risks and unnecessary costs

Recently released by ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies) on its portal, the Software Asset Management Manual is now also available on iTunes, through an application created exclusively for iPads. “Free, this interactive guide was developed to guide companies to achieve an effective management of their software park, helping them to improve processes and make conscious investments. The mobile version will facilitate managers' access to content”, comments Jorge Sukarie, president of ABES.

The interactive manual provides information on how a company can maintain compliance with licensing policies, legislation in force and also the most common mistakes made by companies at the time of licensing. Through effective management that pays attention to these details, the company is able to avoid wasted investments or even future expenses.

The document lists four steps to start a software asset management process, divided into: Inventory; Proof of license ownership; Continuous verification of compliance; Software asset inventory management. The first step allows you to identify unauthorized software installations and which licenses were not used. The second step is to prove ownership of the purchased licenses. The third step, on the other hand, aims to ensure the use of assets within the company. The fourth and final step seeks to manage, through the data collected, the amount of active software.

“With an organized IT environment, the company effectively allocates investments in equipment and software, and is able to decide whether to acquire new licenses or cancel those that may be no longer in use”, explains Jorge Sukarie.

Internal audit to avoid losses

“It is common in companies for employees to install software without the correct licensing. However, what few know is that the person responsible for keeping the technology park legalized is the company's owner. Brazilian law determines that it is up to the entrepreneur to respond to any irregularity within the company, including those committed by employees. Therefore, the best way to avoid losses is to invest in an internal audit and create awareness programs about the risks of software piracy”, concludes Sukarie.

The application is available exclusively for iPads through iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/pt/app/manual-abes-gestao-ativos/id916249309?mt=8.
