Called “SOSurdo”, the application won a programming competition in Florianópolis

The difficulty of a deaf man from Santa Catarina to ask the fire department for help or call an ambulance by telephone for a relative suffering from seizures served as an idea for the team hacksoft create an innovative application: “SOSurdo” allows the hearing impaired to request help by smartphone, without having to rely on the help of others. By touching the screen, it is possible to activate emergency centers quickly and simply. The proposal was the first place of the Hackathon #DevolveSC, event sponsored by Teltec Solutions, which gathered developers in a programming marathon in Florianópolis.

The promotion of the Center for Informatics and Automation of Santa Catarina (CIASC), Federal University (UFSC) and State Foundation for Research and Innovation (FAPESC) served to encourage the development of solutions that bring public power closer to the population of Santa Catarina. In all, ten teams participated in the competition that lasted 54 hours and awarded the three best projects. Second place went to Polar, who created the application award in the grade and the Mané Marketer took third place with the Shall we go to the fair?🇧🇷 The first encourages the user to ask for invoices for products and services, granting points that can be exchanged for prizes; the other helps to identify accredited organic product fairs, with hours, places of operation and even suggestions for recipes with the fruits and vegetables purchased. The three winners received R$ 5,000 each and passed on the codes developed to the CIASC, which will work with them to distribute the applications, according to the tender notice.

Director of Technology at Teltec, Rafael Araújo, was one of the jurors of the event. He said that the Hackathon #DevolveSC it allows the government to engage in a process that was almost exclusive to the private sector. “Those who tend to have a more innovative attitude and encourage the creation of solutions are companies and industry associations. It is essential that proposals such as this event be worked on more and more, not least because we have important poles for the development of softwares in the State like Florianópolis, Joinville and Blumenau. The rapprochement between them and the governments benefits the relationship between Santa Catarina's economic matrices and technology”, he assesses.
