The programming marathon will take place on April 16th and 17th at IBM's headquarters in São Paulo, with 220 participants, more than 80 mentors and 30 volunteers

Registration is now open for the São Paulo stage of AngelHack, the biggest hackathon marathon in the world, which takes place on the 16th and 17th at IBM's headquarters.

The contest will bring together 220 students and professionals in the areas of software programming, design and communication. There will be about 30 hours of intense immersion for multidisciplinary teams, with the help of about 80 mentors, to create technological solutions in the form of applications aimed at social good or research and innovation.

Since 2011, AngelHack invests in the creation and maintenance of development marathons and championships to stimulate the practice of programming around the world. There are already more than 300 hackathons held in 53 countries. “Programming is democratic. It doesn't distinguish who you are or where you come from," says AngelHack CEO Sabeen Ali. "You can do it from home, in your pajamas, whether you're a boy or a girl, white or black."

In 2016, São Paulo will be one of the 36 cities in the world to host the event. The challenge of programming exceptional lines of code – or applications – will lead the winners to a pre-acceleration program in Silicon Valley. This year's Hackathon is an international AngelHack initiative in partnership with IBM THINKLab. The categories to be judged are: business apps and social impact apps. The panel, made up of market experts, will consider the use of cognitive computing tools as a differential.

Marcia Golfieri, leader of relations with the innovation ecosystem and startups at IBM THINKLab, highlights the importance of this initiative for the market. "Extremely innovative ideas, such as 99Taxis, emerged in development marathons like this one. The Bluemix platform will allow participants to program with Watson applications, IBM's cognitive computing system, which should drive great ideas."
