The use of Sports Analytics helps clubs to better monitor their athletes and thus make the best decisions in competitions

Technology in football clubs is now a key factor for results on and off the field. Injury prevention, relationship with fans and monitoring of athletes are some of the examples in which technology acts in a positive way, bringing relevant results. According to Minsait, an Indra company, the big data methodology applied to sports, called Sports Analytics, should gain more and more space in the future.

The potential to be explored is gigantic. Studies show that in 2015, in the four best soccer leagues in the world, each team lost an average of US$ 12 million due to player injuries. According to Minsait, with technology, it is possible to help coaches and clubs' medical staff with a more detailed view of the players' physical condition, and thus make decisions such as substitutions that can prevent possible injuries.

Today, the company points to the use of sensors embedded in players' shirts to track their movements during the match, in addition to smart watches and bracelets that analyze fatigue, heart rate and other data in real time as an initial step towards the use of technology. inside field.

In addition to the use related to the performance of the athletes themselves, the company points out two other segments that can benefit from the use of data: the hiring of new players and the relationship between fans and teams.

In the first case, this type of analysis can indicate which are the best athletes to be observed, based on the desired characteristics, thus having a greater probability of success in hiring. In the second, considering that Brazil is one of the countries that most uses social networks, clubs can collect data and analyze the behavior and profile of fans on different platforms, and thus develop more assertive and optimized communication actions, such as promotions , ticket sales or even sporting goods, considerably increasing your revenues.

To get an idea of the universe to be explored from data analysis, Minsait estimated that during a soccer match more than 8.5 million pieces of data can be generated that can be collected with existing applications and that help to to have a detailed control focusing on the well-being of the athlete, considering not only the performance in the competitions but also in the retention and valorization of the same. The analysis of these and other variables can show hidden patterns that, at first glance, are not observed, but with specific and careful analyzes these data are of great value – thus contributing to an exponential evolution of the club and the player.

“The current landscape of sport is changing and data analysis is gaining more and more presence. Optimizing results is undeniable for any club and the detailed study based on data collected on and off the field should become the main asset for decision making and defining the best strategy”, says Alexandre Coutinho, Head Data Technologies & Advanced Analytics.
