IT Guidelines Manual assists hospitals to make use of
traditional instruments of clinical governance

In order to disseminate the concept of Digital Hospital, Anahp (National Association of Private Hospitals) presents the IT Guidelines Manual to encourage members to implement the technological era in the routine of hospitals. Result of the work of the Anahp IT Study Group, the aim is to facilitate the management of the clinical staff, the analysis of the patient's profile and the optimization of resources, in addition to streamlining the preparation of reports from the institutions necessary for making and making decisions.

Recognizing that the transition from physical files / sectors to digital is a gradual and complex process, and aware that sharing best practices in information technology for the hospital sector can be great allies for healthcare institutions, Anahp listed 10 recommendations - starting with the choice of the system until it is completed in compliance, a step that ensures compliance with legislation, guidelines and certifications in the IT area and guarantees the privacy and confidentiality of information. The association brings together 71 members, whose gross revenue exceeds R$ 20 billion, according to the Anahp Observatory 2015 - yearbook with the main economic and financial indicators of the hospital sector.
Although several entities already use one of the pillars of the system - the Electronic Patient Record - Brazil still does not have digital hospitals. In 2014, Anahp, through a survey conducted in partnership with the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), identified that there is a desire by hospitals to innovate and improve the use of information, in addition to increasing the use of mobile devices, since the use of tablets and smartphones is part of the routine of both the patient and the doctors.

“The investment in Information Technology (IT) presents benefits that go beyond the individual gains of hospitals. It is an essential element of a national health strategy, providing conditions for a new level of Clinical Governance and greater integration between the public and private health systems. Studies indicate that technological resources have demonstrated their effectiveness in the areas of operation, management and assistance of hospitals, bringing benefits such as: operational efficiency, quality of care and patient safety; in addition to positive impacts on the institutional image and financial results ”, says Francisco Balestrin, president Anahp.

The survey, which involved 17 partner hospitals, also pointed out that investment in IT represents only 2% of the institutions' revenue. The annual cost per user of hospitals, in turn, does not exceed US$ 1,115, a value below the national market average that currently reaches the US$ 12,300 mark.

The IT Guidelines Manual for Private Hospitals was based on international models. This document provides recommendations that collaborate for the progressive adoption of IT tools, in order to contribute to the institutions reaching the status of Digital Hospital, with wide automation of processes, generation of innovation, mobility, security and efficiency. These are indications that also serve for each hospital to evaluate its IT adoption strategy in relation to the essential axes of a plan for a Digital Hospital.

The recommendations provide a step-by-step to break the taboo that it is impossible to apply different tools, whether provided by technology companies or developed by the hospital's IT staff, in addition to facilitating the process until the health establishment achieves status. digital hospital, providing conditions for more effective clinical governance.
