Computer resellers were approached in Sorocaba and Jundiaí

Last Thursday (31), agents from the 1st Police District of Jundiaí (SP) carried out a search and seizure action in two computer stores suspected of selling pirated copies of computer programs. Under the command of delegate Paulo Sérgio Martins, the authorities found 24 media.

With the logistical support of the Brazilian Association of Software Companies (ABES), this is the second operation carried out this week, in the State of São Paulo, by police authorities to combat piracy in the country. In Sorocaba (SP), 58 copies of counterfeit computer programs were seized last Wednesday (30). The action was commanded by delegate Dr. Urban Filho, from the Sorocaba General Investigations Police Station. The agents seized the items at three IT resellers in Sorocaba, suspected of selling the items illegally.

The president of ABES, Jorge Sukarie, points out that these establishments are subject to penalties provided for by law against the sale of pirated software. “By committing the crime of reproduction of an intellectual property work, these places promote unfair competition in the market in which they operate. In addition, the pecuniary penalty is up to 3 thousand times the value of each illegally reproduced or used program, combined with the deprivation of liberty of up to three years”, highlights the president.

47% of computers sold in Brazil are pre-infected

When purchasing a computer, consumers must always demand proof that the software installed on the equipment is original. The IDC study indicated that 47% of the computers sold in the country are pre-infected, with malware, including Trojans and other powerful viruses. “The use of these programs exposes users to imminent risks capable of stealing information and personal data”, highlights Sukarie.

To combat this reality and reduce the current piracy rate in Brazil, which is 50%, according to a study by BSA-The Software Alliance, ABES maintains the Portal Report Software Piracy. “When someone suspects the originality of the software, they can make an anonymous complaint through the portal, available on the website http://www.denunciepirataria.org.br🇧🇷 Or if you prefer, you can download the Portal application available on Android and IOS platforms”, comments the president.
