Three months after the inauguration of the Municipal Network of Innovation Centers, more than 92 events have already been held in the spaces.

Florianópolis is the first Brazilian city to have a municipal network of innovation centers, spaces that foster technological entrepreneurship and are spread throughout the neighborhoods. Last Tuesday (30) another center was accredited, Soho, located in Coqueiros, in the continental region. The event featured a lecture by In Hsieh, who is CEO of Chinnovation-CBIPA and was previously head of e-commerce at Xiaomi in Latin America, in addition to being among the founders of Submarino and baby.com.br.

The network of innovation centers was launched at the beginning of this year and the spaces have already hosted more than 92 events, including lectures and business roundtables, with the participation of approximately 700 people. 20 training courses and 23 technical visits were also offered at the sites, involving 395 participants.

“Innovation environments are essential to promote the exchange of experiences and cooperation, very important factors for the development of a technology hub. We are very proud to have participated in the construction of the Municipal Network of Innovation Centers, which is already moving the entrepreneurship ecosystem of Florianópolis”, says Daniel Leipnitz, president of the Santa Catarina Technology Association (ACATE).

“In conversation with ACATE, we saw an opportunity to improve and expand what was already in progress, favoring even more positive results for the economic development of the city's technological sector. We collectively build a model that leverages what already works well in the municipality. Based on deliberations in the Municipal Innovation Council and in the Management Committee of the Municipal Innovation Fund, we created and approved this project that encourages four centers distributed throughout the city and which does not yet exist in Brazil. This is the second space opened and I'm sure of success. The initiative reinforces Florianópolis' leadership position in the technological innovation sector”, explains Marcus Rocha, Superintendent of Science, Technology and Innovation at City Hall.

The project was born out of a partnership between ACATE and the city of Florianópolis. The objective of the initiative is to use innovation centers located in the municipality to foster the ecosystem, stimulate an entrepreneurial culture and generate and scale innovative businesses. At the beginning of the year, three centers had already been accredited by the network, ACATE Downtown, in the Center; ACATE Primavera, on SC-401; and ACATE Sapiens Parque, in the north of the island. Soho will be the first on the Continent.
