Entity launched the Brasil Conectado a 100Gbits project
According to the president of Abranet, Eduardo Parajo, today most providers work with 10 Gb connections. “The most natural step would be to migrate to 40 Gb connections, but the cost-benefit ratio, in the medium term, is higher with 100 Gb equipment”, he points out. “We bet on this partnership to promote a technological leap between providers”, he adds.
According to him, providers are investing more and more in backbones to meet the increase in demand for broadband. “There is an urgent need to give greater fluidity to the ever-increasing volume of data that travels over the internet”, he says. In addition, with 100 Gb, providers will be able to start offering and exploiting services that internet users do not have today, such as manager service and quality IPTV.
Abranet has also been working to alleviate other bottlenecks in the sector, such as the issue of means of payment for internet services, which generate significant costs and a lot of bureaucracy for providers. “We have just closed a partnership with PagSeguro with reduced rates and better conditions for our members”, says Parajo.
Brazil currently has more than 100,000 companies (access, connectivity, IT services, applications and content) in the sector. In 2016, their turnover was around R$ 139 billion. In 2015, this revenue corresponded to 1,51% of the total revenue of Brazilian companies. In terms of Gross Domestic Product, R$ 160 billion were generated in 2015, which represented 2.7% of the national GDP.
