The Center of Industries of the State of São Paulo – CIESP Regional Sorocaba, through its Department of Micro and Small Industry (DEMPI), in partnership with ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies) and Sebrae Sorocaba held on the 29th of April a series of lectures on Software Asset Management. The event brought together businessmen, Information Technology professionals and software developers, with the aim of awakening interest in debating the subject and warning about the risks of having software that is not original, in addition to showing the benefits of the correct use of license of computer programs for business development.

The event had the participation of the deputy director of CIESP Sorocaba, Erly Domingues de Syllos; the regional manager of Sebrae Sorocaba, Carlos Alberto de Freitas; the DEMPI coordinator, Alcebíades Alvarenga; the Executive Coordinator of the ABES Intellectual Property Committee, Carolina Marzano; the ABES Legal Director, Manoel Antonio dos Santos, Paulo Camargo, from the Entrepreneurship Support Systems area of the INOVA agency; from the Sorocaba Technological Park and the representative of Microsoft, Gilberto Moreschi.
During the event, speakers talked about how to ensure security within the company using original systems and software, about legal issues for developing software, about piracy in systems, access to updates and other benefits.

According to ABES data from 2012, Brazil occupies the 7th position worldwide in the Software and Services market, and represents 49.1% of the IT market in Latin America. According to the Executive Coordinator of the ABES Intellectual Property Committee, Carolina Marzano, the entity works with the Legal Entrepreneur initiative – www.empreendedorlegal.org.br, which aims to alert Brazilian businessmen about the legal risks provided for in the laws against Unfair Competition and the defense of Intellectual Property and possible technical damages when investing in pirated software.
 
“To guarantee information security in the corporate environment, it is important to comply with the laws governing the use of software licenses. In addition, companies that use illegal software have an unfair advantage over their competitors”, explains Carolina Marzano.
According to the Deputy Director of CIESP Sorocaba, Erly Domingues de Syllos, bringing this event to businessmen and professionals from Sorocaba and region helped to promote the work of Information Technology in industries, in addition to stimulating the correct use of software. “Security within companies is paramount, which is why information is needed to obtain good results”, explains Erly.
