The Cross-Border Electronic Commerce Workshop: Dialogue with the Government, aimed at government agents, as a basis for public policies for small and medium-sized companies, held on the 10th in Brasília, had the participation of the executive director of ABES, Anselmo Gentile, in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
 
The opening was made by the Brazilian national coordinator of Electronic Commerce of the Mercosur Digital project, Gerson Rolim, who highlighted the importance of cross-border electronic commerce. Then, the deputy secretary of the Secretariat for Information Technology Policy at the MCTI made a brief presentation on behalf of the ministry, and the executive secretary of the Ministry of Communications, James Görgen, spoke briefly on the subject. The workshop was given by the Mercosur Digital project consultant, Vanda Scartezini, responsible for the company Polo Assessoria e Comércio em Informática, who is also director of ABES and President of the Board of FITEC Foundation.
 
The objective of the event was to provide an overview of Electronic Commerce and its legal frameworks in Mercosur countries and to present methodologies and strategies for the promotion of companies with export potential. Among them are suggestions for improvements in performance and metrics for Electronic Commerce and good practices to make it safe and accessible, from the point of view of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), sharing knowledge generated in the Mercosur Digital project in relation to regulatory aspects , technical and security in the countries of the region.
 
The workshop is part of a cycle of events within the scope of Mercosur Digital – an international cooperation project between the European Union and Mercosur developed within the scope of the Specialized Meeting on Science and Technology of Mercosur (RECyT). The project focuses on the areas of e-commerce, continuous training, development of SMEs and dissemination of information society issues in general.
