The Mobilization has already recycled around 190 tons of obsolete ICT equipment, generating resources that will impact the lives of more than 36 thousand people, preventing more than 360 tons of greenhouse gases from being released into the environment.
ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies, with the aim of offering its members and technology companies solutions to reduce inequality and the impact on the environment, is present at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, an event promoted by the Organization of Nations United in New York. This Tuesday (19/09), business and government leaders, UN officials, SDG stakeholders and civil society professionals from around the world came together to discuss measures to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the theme “Move Forward Faster”, the opening ceremony featured actor Matt Dammon, who spoke about the problem of water and sanitation.
Rodolfo Fücher, President of the ABES Council, participated in the event and highlighted the association's actions to build a More Digital and Less Unequal Brazil, such as the Mobilization for the Reduction of Inequality. At the event, the executive met Minister of State Esther Dweck, from the Brazilian Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services.
ABES COMMITTED TO REDUCING INEQUALITIES
Recently, the association joined the National Pact to Combat Inequalities (the movement is coordinated by ABCD – Brazilian Action to Combat Inequalities) and, since the beginning of 2022, has been part of the UN Global Compact Brazil Network, when it committed to contributing effectively for 8 of the 17 SDGs of the Global Compact. “As highlighted in the G20 India recommendations, the private sector has a fundamental role in the issue of sustainability, and technology is an important tool for identifying ways to reduce the impact on the environment. ABES, as an entity in the technology sector, representing around 85% of the Brazilian market, could not be left out of the discussions at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit”, highlights Fücher.
Since 2021, the Mobilization for the Reduction of Inequality has already recycled 191 tons, generating resources that will impact the lives of more than 36 thousand people, and avoiding releasing 362 tons of greenhouse gases and 2 tons of toxic waste into the environment. The initiative, which is carried out in partnership with ReUrbi and Third Sector Observatory and support from Weber Shandwick, targets all companies in the national territory, ABES members or not, that have ICT equipment to be discarded and that have interest in participating in this movement that has a positive impact on the environment, always complying with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices. According to Fücher, “this year, the mobilization to reduce inequality should surpass the mark of 200 tons of recycled ICT equipment, avoiding the emission of more than 3.8 tons of greenhouse gases, and at the same time, we will be generating resources to impact the lives of tens of thousands of people, through digital literacy.”
