Content that infringes the Software Copyright Act is taken down

The Brazilian Association of Software Companies (ABES) ended 2013 with the mark of 53,426 ads, links and websites removed from the web. The contents gave access to files that violated the Software Copyright Law of the entity's associates. The action has been taking place for ten years and is carried out by the Internet Monitoring sector of ABES.

Counting only the links removed from the air with access to the contents of computer programs, 35,822 were removed last year, against 22,854 total registered in 2012. The month of October registered the highest index of deleted files, with 4,917. Regarding the Auction sites, the entity removed 17,468 ads for computer programs in 2013. In addition, 76 websites went offline for containing illegal offers or downloads.

When identifying any content that violates the Copyright of Computer Programs, ABES notifies the portal itself and the access providers, by means of a removal request and what legally implies in keeping this information on the air based on the current legislation in the country.

“ABES is committed to ensuring the protection of intellectual property, combating unfair competition and applying laws opposing software piracy. Internet monitoring is also part of this effort. It is a service aimed at our members to eliminate illegal offers from their programs ”, highlights Jorge Sukarie, president of ABES.

The initiative counts on the partnership of the PPPI - Intellectual Property Protection Program, of the Free Market, which promotes the removal of illegal content that are within its portal. “PPPI has been supporting us and acting quickly, as it validates our monitoring. In this way, we managed to have the illegal content removed from the air in less than 24 hours ”, concludes Sukarie.
