The representative entities, academic institutions, organizations and people who subscribe to this document, express their support for the swift appreciation and approval, by the Federal Senate, of the Bill of Law of the Chamber of Deputies nº 53/2018, which provides for the protection of personal data in the Brazil.

Several countries already have rules for the protection of personal data, addressing the challenges of social and economic transformation arising from the advancement of digital technology, in recognition of the enormous potential for development and well-being derived from the generation, collection and processing of a significant amount of data. . A clear and principled data protection law, which balances the central position of the individual with the economic dynamism of a creative and innovation-inclined country such as Brazil, is essential to catalyze competitiveness.

The debates carried out in the two houses of the National Congress, involving public authorities and representatives of academia, civil society and the business sectors, intensified in the last two years, managed to achieve successful convergence and contributed to the composition of the text recently approved in the Chamber of Deputies. Thus, we understand that PLC No. 53/2018 meets the imperative need for legal certainty for citizens and economic agents. The Senate has a unique opportunity to give Brazil a leading role in terms of data legislation, a fundamental step for the country's insertion in international forums, as well as providing a safe business environment that enhances the attraction and materialization of investments in the order of R$ 250 billion (Brasscom and Frost & Sullivam) in digital transformation technologies by 2021.
