Initiative seeks to strengthen the IT sector

In order to encourage innovation in the Brazilian Information Technology sector, ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies) has just closed an agreement with Porto Digital, a technological park of reference in Brazil and abroad, which is located in Recife , in Pernambuco.

This is the second partnership that the entity closes this year with technology parks, with the objective of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in the ICT sector. At the beginning of the year, ABES also signed an agreement with PTI (Itaipu Technological Park). “Porto Digital is a world reference as a Technological Park and has one of the best environments for innovation and entrepreneurship in the areas of ICT and Creative Economy in the country. We consider this integration to be especially important for the strengthening of the National IT sector ”, comments Jorge Sukarie, president of ABES.

"One of the guidelines of Porto Digital is the integration with partners and entities for the development of the productive chains served by the technological park. This work of mutual cooperation allows several opportunities and incentives for the innovation and entrepreneurship of our ecosystem", says Francisco Saboya, president of Porto Digital.

The initiative is part of the ABES support program for incubators and startups, which seeks to get closer to these new companies and offer support for the development and acceleration of business. The entities will aim to identify innovation projects in the Information Technology area and encourage development in micro and small companies, as well as in innovative technology-based ventures.

About Porto Digital

Porto Digital is one of the pillars of the new economy of the State of Pernambuco. Its activities take place in two highly intensive activities in knowledge and innovation, which are (i) software and services of information and communication technologies and (ii) creative economy, especially the segments of games, multimedia, cine-video-animation, music, design and photography.

Porto Digital has a unique characteristic that sets it apart from most other technology parks: its territoriality. Porto Digital is an urban park, installed in the historic district of Recife Antigo and in the neighborhood of Santo Amaro. It occupies an area of 1,390,000 m², which has been upgraded since the installation and consolidation of new projects. About 50,000 m² of buildings in the historic area have already been restored and today serve the development of productive activities.

Considered a reference in the implementation of the 'triple helix' model, Porto Digital is the result of a coordinated action between industry, government and academia that resulted, fifteen years after its foundation (2000), in one of the main innovation environments in the country.

Currently, Porto Digital is home to over 250 companies and associated service organizations, three business incubators and a business accelerator, two higher education institutions and two research institutes, including CESAR - Center for Advanced Studies and Systems in Recife , twice considered the best Science and Technology institution in the country by FINEP - Brazilian Innovation Agency of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Porto Digital companies have invoiced about R$ 1 billion annually in the last three years, 65% of which originated from contracts signed outside the State of Pernambuco. These companies employ more than 7,100 people and are managed by approximately 500 entrepreneurs.
