Ten proposals for innovative production lines will be chosen

The Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) will award ten innovative projects to solve problems for companies in the productive and service sectors. The objective is to select proposals for simulations of production lines on digital platforms, the so-called "Virtual Factories". The initiatives can be presented by specialists, companies or startups from the 30th of July. Access the notice here.

The total amount of the prize is R$ 260 thousand, with R$ 50 thousand for the first place, R$ 40 thousand for the second place, R$ 30 thousand for the third place and R$ 20 thousand for the others. “The methods of simulating production lines through specific software are powerful analytical tools. With them, we simulate the behavior of a production system and the different variables and operational situations”, points out Bruno Jorge, coordinator of Industry 4.0 at ABDI.

The simulation programs have 95% adherence to reality, that is, they are an almost perfect imitation of industrial plants. In this way, tests in a virtual environment anticipate problems in production lines. In addition, it is possible to simulate projects that have not yet got off the ground, verifying their efficiency, effectiveness and operability before being implemented.

The simulations include the graphical representation of workers, inputs and equipment in motion, illustrating the flows within the factory. The tools generate performance estimates in terms of processing time, resource utilization, sizing of intermediate and operational inventories at each workstation.

The project will allow ABDI to approach the real problems of the sector, as explained by Bruno Jorge. “We are not aware of any competition of this nature carried out by a Brazilian public entity in recent years. Our goal is to reward innovative projects in this area and encourage the dissemination of these practices in industries and service companies in the country, so that the principles of industry 4.0 are increasingly applied”.

The adoption of industry 4.0 concepts in the Brazilian production matrix can generate savings of R$ 73 billion per year. ABDI also launched, at the end of 2018, the public notice for the so-called “Fábricas do Futuro” (testbeds). The ten best proposals were selected, which received R$ 300 thousand each.
