The world is on the verge of the 4th industrial revolution, with the consolidation of industry 4.0. In general concepts, this process encompasses the large-scale use of automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and the internet of things within companies. Consequently, changes must occur in the labor market, as happened with the arrival of robots and the internet. However, there are those who fear large-scale unemployment with technological advances.

For the President of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), Guto Ferreira, Brazil needs to be prepared, with more investments in education, innovation and technology, stimulating new skills and business opportunities. “Being against evolution is the same as being against the internet 20 years ago. Or to be against the digital camera to keep the laboratorians employed. Or, still, to be against online commerce due to the risk of unemployment in commerce. Brazil has the opportunity to prepare and advance instead of paddling against the tide”, he explains.

For Ferreira, it is necessary to think about how the future that is already happening will encompass people. “If we think about the thousands of jobs that transport apps like Uber, Cabify, 99 and Easy Taxi generated in what was the worst crisis that Brazil has faced in its history, we can evolve into a more productive discussion”. The president of ABDI emphasizes that: “applying the concept of industry 4.0 is a non-negotiable condition for the competitiveness of the Brazilian productive sector. Therefore, the dissemination of these new concepts and the training of industries that represent transversal and strategic sectors, productivity and innovation inducers, are urgent”.

ABDI listed the 10 reasons why Brazil needs Industry 4.0:

1 – Places Brazil for the first time in the elite of the discussion of the evolution of the technological productive system;

2 – The number of qualified jobs will increase and, consequently, with higher income;

3 – Studies show a possible saving of R$ 73 billion in the country with the adoption of industry 4.0 concepts;

4 – Significant improvement in productivity in national industry and gain in competitiveness with the rest of the world;

5 – Like every concept, it starts in the industry, but will quickly spread to other sectors, such as retail, for example;

6 – Possibility of creating a new industrial production chain in Brazil, with high added value products;

7- Improvement in the intelligence of the companies' operations with accurate data analysis;

8 – The country will no longer be just a commodity producer and will evolve into a manufacturing industry;

9 – Some sectors such as automotive, agro, textiles and health have immediate conditions to lead or be in the global production elite;

10 – The Brazilian government is at the right time on the subject, launching this year the guidelines to guide the Brazilian Industry 4.0.
