Free access to 48 Technical Standards (NT) from different productive sectors, such as civil construction, electronics and capital goods (machinery and equipment) is available on the website of the Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI). The web address that makes the Standards available is the result of a contract between ABDI and the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), which has an initial duration of one year and involved an investment of R$ 360 thousand. The content can be accessed by any person, physical or legal, with the right to up to two impressions. To access the content, just enter the address www.abntcatalogo.com.br/abdi and register.

The collection available on the Portal includes several NT that range from traditional processes and products, such as safety of home appliances and the like; LED modules for general lighting (safety specifications); Desktop; optical cables (rodent resistance); waste electrical and electronic equipment; electrical accessories (reel extensions for domestic use); terms and definitions for LEDs and general lighting LED modules; housing buildings; plugs and sockets for domestic use (standardization); building maintenance (requirements for the maintenance management system); structural masonry (ceramic blocks); cold water building installation; tunnel lighting systems (requirements), recent standards dealing with innovative processes and products such as modular coordination for buildings, building information classification system (BIM) and performance standards, among others.

ABDI expects that, throughout 2014, there will be a strong growth in the demand for access to the system, which will require the future expansion of the volume of standards (collection) available for access. “Standardization is directly linked to the competitiveness of companies and countries. Consistency, coherence and international alignment in regulatory processes are decisive for competitiveness and, consequently, for a better quality of life for society”, says ABDI director Maria Luisa Campos Machado Leal.

For the president of ABNT's Deliberative Council, Pedro Buzatto Costa, the partnership with ABDI is of great importance for the Association. “By making these technical standards available to society, we show the benefits of their use and help to promote technological updating, increasing the competitiveness and development of Brazilian industry”, he evaluates.
