ABES invites associates to the presentation by the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) on the project "Environment for Demonstration of Technologies for Smart Cities", on 07/26 from 10 am to 12 pm, at the Bourbon Convention, Av. What is the project
As a result of a cooperation agreement between ABDI and Inmetro, the project foresees the installation of a real environment (mini city) on the Institute's campus, in Xerém (RJ), where it will be possible to integrate different products and solutions, allowing for testing , evaluate and qualify these products and solutions in terms of interoperability, security, performance, among other issues.
According to the president of ABDI, Guto Ferreira, the test results will support the definition of compliance programs for technologies aimed at Smart Cities, in addition to proposals for measures to stimulate the market and the development of industries. “The Demonstration Environment is an unprecedented initiative in the country and aims to bring effective results for the qualification and competitiveness of the national industry, enabling the insertion of certified assets in the market, in addition to stimulating the development of the chain of products and solutions for Smart Cities and Humanities”, said Ferreira.
To apply for the project, companies must own existing solutions or solutions in the development phase, pre-commercial or commercial, subject to testing and qualification, as well as suppliers of materials and services associated with solutions for Smart Cities or even technological institutes and other entities active in the subject. The interested company or institution must also commit to making its solutions available, installing the products and making the necessary adjustments for their operation in the Inmetro/ABDI demonstration environment.
According to ABDI's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) specialist, Carlos Frees, companies or institutions interested in demonstrating their technological solutions will be able to contribute to defining the prerequisites for technological compliance. “Companies or institutions will have access to the results, which will enable the improvement and qualification of their products and processes. They will also be able to collaborate with the definition of the most appropriate technological references and requirements for smart city solutions in Brazil”, added the specialist.
“The Demonstration Environment tends to become a live showcase and a guide for those demanding technologies for Smart Cities (municipalities and supply chain), being a guiding mechanism for other Smart Cities projects in Brazil”, he added.

A city characterized as 'smart' focuses on providing great benefits to the population in terms of quality of life, health services, security, transport and information. Intelligent and humane, these new centers achieve a high level of social return through the application of information and communication technologies in an environment integrated by centralized public management.
In this new format, the citizen is an integral agent and cooperates with public management, by being able to participate, monitor, supervise and contribute to the improvement of public services. In Brazil, smart city initiatives began to amplify in 2014, in sectors such as public lighting; smart grids that integrate the control of water, gas and energy; complex systems and communication infrastructure (Internet and telephony), as well as smart buildings and smart neighborhoods.
