Complex problems demand innovative solutions. For this reason, the Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL) announces its entry into the 100 Open Startups Movement and launches the Aluminum Product Traceability Challenge, with the objective of promoting the development of control and monitoring solutions for aluminum products, such as raw and semi-manufactured materials. Applications are open until April 15th.

The executive president of ABAL, Milton Rego, explains that a specific traceability system for aluminum and focused on a certain product, segment or even for the entire production chain would result in several benefits. “A specific traceability system for aluminum, focused on a specific product/segment or for the entire production chain, would result in operational and logistical benefits, inhibit cargo theft, combat informality, and ultimately bring important competitive gains to our industry” , assures Milton. “And, as we know that this is a project that requires technology, creativity and daring, we sought these qualities where they are concentrated: in the best startups and in the centers of technological innovation, the techs”.

The Movimento 100 Open Startups is a platform for connecting the industry and the most attractive startups on the market. Companies, such as ABAL's associates, launch challenges and the platform facilitates the approximation with startups, establishing affinities between them, in a kind of "corporate match". “It is an innovation ecosystem, which has everything to do with the solution we seek for this challenge and for the next ones that ABAL intends to launch”, explains Kaísa Couto, manager of the technical area of the Association. “In addition to startups, we were able to access the most promising technologies through the platform in the market's view, expanding networks for innovation and business opportunities”.

Kaísa also recalls that traceability is essential for analyzing the life cycle (LCA) of any product, information that supports sustainable processes and choices. In addition, it is a premise for the application of the concepts of the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution, marked by the convergence of digital, physical and biological technologies.

The Traceability Challenge is open to startups and techs at any stage of development. The forecast is to have the ranking of the best solutions in the first half of the year. From then on, companies in the aluminum industry can sign contracts to develop pilot projects, provide services or provide innovative solutions, according to the maturity and consistency of both the startup and the chosen solution.
