Application allows you to record the conditions of streets, sidewalks and special vacancies

AACD – Associação de Assistência à Criança Deficiente and IBM will jointly carry out a survey of the accessibility of Brazilian streets through the collaborative application Rota Acessível, which allows the population to participate in mapping the streets. Initially available on the App Store and from November 25th for the Android platform, the free, easy-to-use application has several registration items, such as location of special parking spaces, conditions of the sidewalks and the presence of lowered curbs.

The solution developed by the IBM Brasil Research Laboratory has georeferencing, which allows the automatic location of the user when he uses the application. The citizen quickly selects the area in which he intends to register his report: location, availability and conservation of special parking spaces, in addition to the conditions of the sidewalks, crosswalks, lowered curbs, public lighting, pedestrian traffic lights and the presence of tactile signs. and visual. After selecting the topic, just add a photo to enable the visualization of the information, proving the data included in the application. All users will have access to the data entered in the Accessible Route, being able to follow the evolution and the graphs generated by the tool.

Mobility, data analysis and collaboration technologies were used to provide more intelligence and information to cities and society. All these associated solutions will allow an assertive and reliable survey, available for everyone to consult.

“We developed this technology in partnership with AACD to enable a broad survey of street mapping, so that Brazilians can have access to assertive information regarding accessibility and signage. With this, we intend to engage the population in the exercise of citizenship, as well as provide information to people who need accessibility solutions, helping them to choose the best paths”, explains Sergio Borger, Human Systems manager at the IBM Brazil Research Laboratory.

“Using technology, created by IBM, to offer and facilitate accessibility for people with disabilities will bring about important social changes in the country. It is a constant and fundamental exercise of citizenship to create an environment in which differences are smaller”, says João Octaviano Machado Neto, CEO and general superintendent of AACD.

An initial mapping has already been carried out, with the help of the team of three institutions present in the project. Almost a thousand records were made in the quadrangle that surrounds Domingos de Moraes, Vergueiro and Ibirapuera and June 11th avenues, in São Paulo.

To collaborate with this survey, simply download the Accessible Route app for free from the App Store and Play Store (from 11/25) and follow the results of the study on  www.rotaacessivel.com.
