In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a major topic worldwide. We can say that the boom generated by this technology, driven by the new wave of Generative AI, was so great that its application expanded to several segments, reaching the daily lives of educational institutions.

With this movement, parents and educators quickly expressed some concern about the use of AI in classrooms. After all, it is a recent technology, with few studies yet on its real risks and benefits for teaching. However, given its innovative and transformative potential, the expectation is that, as research advances, AI can bring several benefits to the learning process.

The technology market has been advancing in the development of AI solutions for the education sector, and the gains in routine processes have been palpable. Automation is one of the applications of this innovation that has stood out in schools.

With this in mind, I share four possible uses of AI in the context of education:

Attendance control

A task often performed manually and repetitively by teachers, student attendance control can be carried out more quickly with the support of AI. Using solutions with facial recognition, it is possible to carry out this process much more quickly in the classroom, optimizing time, which can be better used.

Application and correction of tests

The testing process can also be optimized with the use of artificial intelligence. There are already solutions that help teachers confirm students’ identities when applying assessments, including remote tests, making this process much safer. The laborious task of correcting regular tests and selection processes, which require a lot of time and dedication from teachers, can also be improved, with gains in scale and agility. A practical example is the correction of essays in a selection process, which can be done in a few seconds, using AI.

Analysis of academic documents

When it comes to administrative management in educational institutions, one of the biggest challenges is dealing with the receipt and processing of a large number of documents. With the help of AI, it is possible to perform the analysis of academic documentation in an automated way, verifying the veracity and validity of the data, thus freeing up professionals' time so that they can dedicate themselves to more strategic tasks.

Personalization of teaching

When we talk about implementing AI solutions in class content, adoption is more gradual. After all, it is necessary to be even more careful when using any innovation that directly interferes with learning. At this point, it is necessary to evaluate, discuss and test what actually works and what can help students in their daily lives, contributing to their development.

The future is promising, and I believe that we have several possibilities for improving Brazilian education with this technology. One example is the personalization of class content based on the needs of each student. Through the analysis of various data, it is possible to identify gaps and learning difficulties, as well as the pace of each student. With this, technology can propose activities that will be more valuable for the learning of that specific student.

Much more than a fad, AI has shown its potential for education. The scenario is undoubtedly still complex, since, far from being a consensus, this is a topic that will continue to be debated in the coming years. After all, there are still several ethical issues involving AI – in the educational field and beyond – that need to be discussed.

Therefore, I emphasize the potential that AI has to offer to education, but I also emphasize the importance of its adoption always being guided by structured pedagogical principles, with the support of expert opinion. And to this end, it is crucial that education professionals inform themselves and stay up to date on its main uses, trends and new developments. After all, AI will not replace teachers, but rather be a complementary tool to improve their daily lives, so that this essential professional can dedicate themselves to what really matters: teaching and learning.
