The project, now in its fifth phase, simplifies the updating of financial routines and provides real-time insights for the largest mobility group in Latin America.

Motiva, a leader in the mobility sector, operating in highway, urban mobility, and airport management, implemented IBM Planning Analytics to transform its raw data into real-time insights. Motiva, which operates in 13 Brazilian states, has over 16,000 employees, and 40 million annual customers, collaborated with specialized consultancy CTI Global to adopt the business planning tool.

Currently, IBM Planning Analytics is Motiva's primary financial driver, aiding decision-making and long-term trend calculations. The tool has also proven effective in interfacing with SAP, reducing costs and becoming a more cost-effective solution compared to the software previously used.

The project arose from the need to replace an old tool to update long-term forecasts and support important decisions more quickly. By adopting IBM Planning Analytics, Motiva was able to reduce the time for its planning exercises by three times. budget, providing all the real-time insights needed for strategic decision-making. The tool, developed by IBM WatsonX, also offers a generative artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to improve participation in the planning and decision-making process and facilitates the analysis of profitability and detailed what-if scenarios, increasing the speed and accuracy of business decisions.

According to Francisco Loschiavo, managing partner at CTI Global, implementing IBM Planning Analytics at Motiva was a significant challenge due to the complexity and diversity of the group's business—which includes highway management, urban mobility, and airports. "The tool proved robust and flexible, capable of handling large volumes of data and delivering high performance, even with many people working on it simultaneously," explains Loschiavo.

The development of the project at Motiva required the collaboration of different teams, including TD SYNNEX, a distribution partner of both CTI and IBM, with which it maintains a Center of Excellence for the development of applications with innovative technologies.

A new approach to planning

The project's success, according to Thiago Viola, director of AI, data, and security at IBM Brazil, wasn't solely due to the implementation of a new tool. "The change in internal processes, driven by the need to review and rethink routines, ultimately led to significant transformations and made Motiva's processes much more agile and modern," the executive emphasizes.

According to José Freitas, Motiva's director of corporate planning, the adoption of IBM Planning Analytics has benefited several areas of the group, including economic planning and accounting eliminations. "The tool has proven essential for providing real-time information and supporting decision-making, which has a direct impact on shareholder returns," says Freitas.

Motiva plans to continue utilizing and exploring the capabilities of IBM Planning Analytics to further optimize processes and provide superior service to its employees, both in the Financial and Technology areas, as well as to their respective clients.
