Long before DeepSeek, Amazônia AI was already standing out outside the big tech axis and now marks a new revolution in technological trends for AI

Long before all the fuss about DeepSeek's arrival, Brazil had already made its mark in the production of LLMs outside the big tech industry. Since 2024, Brazil has been on the map of countries capable of building artificial intelligence models with optimized costs and impressive performance. Now it is launching three new revolutionary models that promise to transform globally and definitively the interpretation of AIs on voice, image, translation and sentiment understanding data.

WideLabs, the artificial intelligence company responsible for creating Amazônia AI, a robust model launched in July 2024 at the 5th Science and Technology Conference in Brasília, is back on the scene with 3 new AI models that join Amazônia AI's functionalities. If the original model is named after our largest forest, the three new models pay homage to our fauna. Guara, Harpia and Golia are the names that will expand the family. And expectations are high!

The first API on the list is Guara. An advanced AI model focused on transcribing audio in Brazilian Portuguese, capable of understanding accents, slang, and regional terms. Benchmark tests indicate that Guara is the best model in the world for the Portuguese language, which, in practice, can revolutionize agents who use audio for customer service, transcribing lectures, hearings, among many other use cases where the spoken language is the center of the action.

The second API is Harpia, which is an advanced multimodal model trained to understand text and images, and can analyze graphic documents, recognize text in multiple languages, and perform visual mathematical reasoning. Finally, WideLabs presents Golia, a small, agile, low-cost model for a wide range of purposes. It offers unparalleled quality in translations, summaries, and sentiment analysis.

“We are in a time of LLM development where we have access to new features, improvements, lower development and production costs and, above all, increasingly better advances and results, all the time. This is the time of the rise of AIs, because in addition to having AIs available, we need them to fulfill several different functions, in different contexts”, explains Nelson Leoni, CEO of WideLabs. “In Brazil, we are very diverse, we have a very rich language, which changes from region to region, from neighborhood to neighborhood, with slang and mannerisms that are typical of people of different ages, among other things. An AI that understands speech cannot be limited to the formal version of the language; it needs to go beyond”, he explains.

For Leoni, the new features brought by Guara, Harpia and Golia are natural evolutions that will continue to happen, thanks to the dynamism of the market itself and the increasingly specific needs of people.

“In recent weeks, we have seen the impact of DeepSeek on the market, and we must get used to these impacts occurring more and more, since different locations have different needs, demands, limitations and obstacles, which drives their developers to be creative in increasingly interesting ways. In Brazil, it is no different, and that is why Amazônia AI is so good at what it does, maintaining the quality level of the most famous players in the market. Furthermore, without being insufficient to any other AI, we represent a movement to democratize AI, with a focus on being appropriate to our audience and culture”, adds Leoni.
