B3, Brazil's stock exchange, has delivered the first stage of modernizing the technology infrastructure for its central variable income depository, an environment responsible for maintaining and processing assets traded on the stock exchange.
Using modern concepts of architecture and event-driven technology, the structure of the new platform was developed, providing increased processing capacity, greater availability time and flexibility to make new products and services available to the market more quickly. The project is being carried out in partnership with the Swedish company Vermiculus, which specializes in solutions for market infrastructures.
“With a modern architecture and the application of new technologies, such as DLT, artificial intelligence and data streaming, combined with the strategic partnership with Microsoft for cloud use, we will significantly expand the capacity and service offering of B3's central depository, adding value and providing the necessary support for the continued growth of the capital market in Brazil”, comments Rodrigo Nardoni, Vice President of Technology at B3.
The new platform has already been made available to central depository participants, who now have access to self-service customized information on asset custody and investor registration data. In addition, DLT solutions are being tested to assist in the reconciliation process for participants, who now have access to central depository information in near real time through APIs or directly on a permissioned network.
“The use of microservices technology, with a high level of independence between events, will allow new functionalities to be inserted into the platform more quickly and efficiently, responding to customer needs and the evolution of the capital market more efficiently,” highlights Viviane El Banate Basso, vice president of Post-Trading and Issuers at B3.
The Brazilian capital market has shown significant acceleration in recent years, going from 600,000 individual accounts in 2016 to 6 million in 2024. The new technology prepares the depository to support new growth cycles over the next 15 years with the scalability and capacity that the most modern concepts of cloud technology provide.
“Vermiculus’ scalable and robust platform, VeriSafe, is designed to meet the demands of high-volume, high-complexity depositories. It supports a wide range of asset types and complex corporate events thanks to its innovative architecture,” said Taraneh Derayati, CEO of Vermiculus.
