This Tuesday morning (09/01), Marcelo Almeida, from ABES, Gabriely Santos, from Brasscom, and Renato Roll, from Assespro, met with Estela Aranha, Secretary of Digital Rights at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The meeting aimed to discuss bill 2338/2023, which deals with the regulation of Artificial Intelligence.
During the meeting, representatives spoke of the importance of the government taking a position in relation to the bill, which was almost approved in 2023 without any manifestation from the Federal Government. To reassure the sector, Estela revealed that there is a working group coordinated by the Institutional Relations Secretariat that is analyzing the topic in detail.
Furthermore, Estela provided some important information about the guidelines that will be followed by Brazil in relation to AI. She indicated that there will be alignment with UN recommendations and highlighted that instrumental management programs, including in the health area, will not be subject to being classified as high risk; and spoke of the expectation of creating an agency to deal exclusively with issues related to AI.
Entity representatives pondered the need for a more principled approach to regulating AI and pointed to possible increases in transaction costs when it comes to creating agencies.
Finally, the representatives made themselves available to contribute to the debate and add to the government's position in this important discussion on the regulation of Artificial Intelligence in Brazil.
