ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies is promoting this Monday, November 6th, an event that discusses the digital future and the reinvention of the now. With a video sent by the vice-president of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, about the role of ABES for the sector, the ABES Conference 2023 began discussions about ESG in technology and stakeholder capitalism. The event takes place in person at the JW Marriott Hotel, in São Paulo, with live broadcast on the ABES YouTube channel.
On stage, Felicio Ramuth, Vice-Governor of São Paulo, highlighted the importance of Tax Reform and the role of ABES in helping to ensure that there are no undesirable consequences for the innovative capacity of the Brazilian economy. ABES and other entities in the IT sector are talking to senators to align perspectives and possible changes to other articles of the PEC which, with the current text, could generate legal uncertainty and not guarantee the implementation of a full non-cumulative regime, in which there is no cascading taxation.
Paulo Milliet Roque, president of ABES, highlighted the importance of adequate treatment for the digital revolution, which is potentially much more transformative and much more impactful than the industrial reform that we experienced a few centuries ago. And he insisted on the importance of differentiated treatment for the information technology sector in the context of tax reform. “The ICT sector is the basis for building several other sectors. It is a transversal sector, and improving productivity in Brazil necessarily involves information technology, which is why we believe that differentiated treatment for the sector is important”, he argued.
Innovation in the industry and the Lula Government's plan to finance innovation and digitalization projects were described by José Luis Gordon, Director of Productive Development, Foreign Trade and Innovation at BNDES. Also participating in the opening of the ABES Conference 2023 were Marcia Nejaim, Sustainability, International Market and Business Strategy at ApexBrasil; and Demi Getschko, one of the pioneers of the Internet in Brazil and CEO of NIC.br.
Next, Silvio Meira talks about how to ensure that the impact waves of new technologies allow for better development of humanity. He is the founder and chief scientist of TDS Company, extraordinary professor at Cesar School, professor emeritus at the UFPE Informatics Center and one of the founders of Porto Digital, where he chairs the board of directors.

At the ABES Conference 2023, Silvio Meira explains the consequences of the inversion of the business model that occurs in the digital era
“We can no longer hide from the macro transformation we are experiencing. Everything is software and everything that will happen around us will be defined by a networked world”, said Silvio Meira – founder and chief scientist of TDS Company, extraordinary professor at Cesar School, professor emeritus at the UFPE Informatics Center and one of the founders of Porto Digital, where he chairs the board of directors – at the ABES Conference 2023.
According to him, phygital space redefines what innovation is and what marketing is. It is a space of flux, where even more radical transformations take place on very large scales in businesses and organizations, moving from the industrial revolution to the era of information and networked knowledge. Due to competitive and survival needs, businesses will make many more decisions whose latency – the time between the occurrence of a problem, the decision to be made and the solution arriving at the end – must be less than 1 hour.
Loren Spíndola, leader of the ABES Artificial Intelligence Working Group and Cybersecurity Working Group, mediated the question and answer session with Silvio Meira, and highlighted the importance of the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
