At its annual Think conference, IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced IBM Watsonx, an upcoming new AI and data platform that will enable companies to scale and accelerate the impact of the most advanced AI with trusted data. Businesses using AI need access to a complete technology suite that allows them to train, tune and deploy AI models across their organization, including foundational models and machine learning, with trusted data, with governance and speed, all in one only place and in any cloud environment.

With Watsonx, IBM is offering an AI development platform with open source foundational models selected and trained by IBM, access to data storage that will allow data collection and cleansing for training and tuning, and a tools for AI governance that will provide companies with end-to-end, seamless AI workflows that will make AI easier to adapt and scale.

“With the development of foundational models, AI for business is more powerful than ever,” said Arvind Krishna, President and CEO of IBM. “Foundational models make AI implementation significantly more scalable, affordable and efficient. We built IBM Watsonx to meet the needs of enterprises, so customers can be more than just users and power their business with AI. With IBM Watsonx, customers can quickly train and deploy custom AI capabilities across their business while maintaining full control of their data.”

With Watsonx, IBM is offering an AI development platform with open source foundational models curated and trained by IBM

Customers will have access to the toolset, technology, infrastructure and consulting expertise to build, tweak or adapt their own AI models with their own data and deploy them at scale in an open and trusted environment to drive their business success. . The IBM Watsonx platform consists of three sets of products to address these needs:

IBM Watsonx. there: a next-generation enterprise AI platform to train, test, tune and deploy both traditional machine learning and new generative AI capabilities driven by foundational models through an open and intuitive user interface. The platform provides a wide range of foundational models, training and tuning tools, and a cost-effective infrastructure that facilitates the entire data and AI lifecycle, from data preparation to model development and monitoring. It is estimated that it will be available in July 2023.

IBM Watsonx. date: data storage for different use cases based on open architecture lakehouse, optimized for data governance and AI workloads, supports query formats, governance, and open data to access and share data. The solution can manage workloads in local and multicloud environments. With this workload optimization solution, a company can reduce data warehouse in 50%¹. It is estimated that it will be available in July 2023.

IBM Watsonx. governance: A suite of AI governance tools to enable trusted AI workflows. The solution operationalizes governance to help eliminate the risk, time and costs associated with manual processes and provides the documentation needed to drive transparent and explainable results. It also provides mechanisms to protect customer privacy, proactively detect biases and deviations in models, and help organizations achieve their ethical standards. It is estimated that it will be available later this year.

IBM also plans infuse the foundational models by Watsonx. ai in its main products:

  • Watson Code Assistant: solution expected to be available later this year that leverages generative AI to allow developers to generate code with a direct command in English.
  • AIOps Insights: Enhanced AIOps capabilities with estimated foundational models for code and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide greater visibility into the performance of IT environments, helping to resolve incidents more conveniently and cost-effectively.
  • Watson Assistant and Watson Orchestrate: IBM's digital work products will combine with the foundational model of NLP to improve productivity and customer experiences.
  • Environmental Intelligence Suite: IBM EIS Builder Edition is expected to be enabled with the foundational geospatial model, enabling organizations to create solutions that address and mitigate environmental risks based on their unique objectives. Available to preview at the end of the year.

At Think, IBM will also announce a number of additional solutions that help with AI adoption:

  • New GPU offering on IBM Cloud: Addressing the need for foundational models, IBM announces a new GPU (Graphic Processing Units) offering on the IBM Cloud, a bespoke AI infrastructure designed to support the compute intensive workloads of enterprises. At the end of the year, IBM will provide an infrastructure full stack high-performance, flexible, and AI-optimized, delivered as a service on the IBM Cloud to train and serve foundational models.
  • IBM Consulting Center of Excellence for Generative AI: THE IBM Consulting announces its Center of Excellence for Generative AI with more than 1,000 generative AI experts and plans to create a watsonx-focused practice that will build and deploy watsonx for clients. IBM Consulting has worked with dozens of clients infusing generative AI with IBM Watson and a wide range of ecosystem partners through its proven IBM Garage method.
  • IBM Cloud Carbon Calculator: one dashboard powered by AI to enable customers to measure, track, manage and help report their carbon footprint associated with their hybrid or multicloud journey. Based on technology from IBM Research, the IBM Cloud Carbon Calculator will be available later in the year. O dashboard complements IBM's sustainability solutions to help companies accelerate their business and sustainability goals.
