This Wednesday (02/15), Paulo Milliet Roque, President of ABES, Rodolfo Fücher, President of the Board, Loren Spíndola and Andriei Gutierrez, Deputy Directors, held several meetings in Brasília (DF) in order to establish a dialogue with members of the Chamber of Deputies and managers of key portfolios in the Lula Government for the information and communication technology sector.
The first meeting of the day was with the Federal Deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil/SP) and dealt with the development of the Brazilian technology sector, the need for legal certainty, tax reform, payroll exemption, incentives for startups and policies to encourage innovation, among other relevant topics.
In the early afternoon, the meeting was with the Minister of State Luciana Santos, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). On the agenda, the importance of projects and public policies for the scientific, technological and innovative development of the country. ABES representatives highlighted market data on the sector, the importance of the software and services industry in generating qualified jobs and the importance that the ministry has in supporting research and projects aimed at improving the country's competitiveness in the global market, in addition to encouraging cooperation between companies and public authorities in this area.
Ministry of Communications
The day's agenda also included a meeting with Maximiliano Martinão, from MCOM, who assumed the position of Telecommunications Secretary of the Ministry of Communications (MCom). He will be responsible for sector policies and investment projects in infrastructure, innovation and digital inclusion. On the agenda, the importance of expanding the access of the Brazilian population to the internet, essential for people to be able to fully participate in the digital society. The meeting was attended by Otavio Caixeta, Director of Innovation, Regulation and Inspection of Broadcasting, and Pedro Araújo, Director of Investment and Innovation, both from MCom.
Paulo Milliet Roque highlighted that all the meetings were very productive and that ABES has as one of its pillars the promotion of permanent dialogue with parliamentarians and executive branch managers to talk about laws and public policies that contribute to the construction of a Digital Brazil, Less Unequal and an ethical, sustainable and globally competitive business environment. “The business sector wants to contribute to a more inclusive and egalitarian society, in which everyone can enjoy the benefits of the digital age. For this, we need to advance in public policies to encourage innovation and also in the tax and regulatory fields. We represent a transversal sector that drives all other economic sectors, such as industry, commerce, health, education and entertainment”, he concluded.
