University adopts career management tool 100% developed in GeneXus and provided by technology company Valorizza Desenvolvimento. Benefits of use involve, since 2019, 15,000 internship contracts and 1,000 partner companies, in addition to new sources of revenue

The path taken from the beginning of university life to the conclusion of academic training is a long journey. More than hours of study, planning a career includes a strategic stop in the routine to design the next steps, which include aspects such as knowledge and skills that will add value for the professional future, in addition to a posture capable of differentiating the student in the construction of the your career.

Thinking about providing all the support necessary for the student to leverage his professional career, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) has automated its career management process through a portal, which was developed by the technology company Valorizza Desenvolvimento using the low-code GeneXus software, provided by its southern distributor BXT (Business Xtreme Technologies). “We chose GeneXus because of the faster learning curve and to evolve the product without relying on programming languages”, adds José Eduardo Tcharduk, CEO of Valorizza Desenvolvimento.

Previously, PUCRS had a decentralized career management process, with areas that operated separately, but dealing with similar issues. The step towards unification was when the internship sector discontinued its own software in favor of the integrating agent module of Valorizza Desenvolvimento's career management software, whose function is to deal with the procedures for hiring interns with companies that intermediate vacancies with other organizations.

Katia Almeida, coordinator of PUCRS Careers

From the use of the module, the University saw the opportunity to integrate the areas dedicated to careers and adopt the Valorizza Desenvolvimento portal as a unique software. “We even evaluated another portal option, but the tool analyzed did not offer the internship module in a structured way. So, we were safe with Valorizza. We are still approached by companies that have other tools on the market, but when it comes to the operationalization of internships, the other portals are less reliable” points out Katia Almeida, coordinator of PUCRS Carreiras.

Today, the portal concentrates all activities dedicated to boosting the careers of talent, whether they are students at PUCRS or other institutions. “Any student, from any university, can register on the PUCRS Carreiras portal, as we work as an integrating agent for internships, which benefits the business community and the talents of the State”, explains Katia.

In addition to vacancies, among the services available on the portal are career advice with psychologists and training and workshops for self-knowledge, construction of curricula and preparation for interviews and selection processes, in addition to intermediation with teachers for authorization and monitoring of mandatory and non-mandatory internships. mandatory. “We have a list of possibilities that are operationalized from the portal. The consultants' agenda, for example, is available in the system so that talent, in contact with our service, can choose the option they prefer”, explains Katia.

From the companies' point of view, it is possible to publish vacancies, which undergo an analysis process to check compliance with the requirements of PUCRS Carreiras. Currently, there are more than 150 opportunities posted on the portal.

Another front that was extended to PUCRS from the use of the portal was the monetization of some of its processes, such as the integrating agent, in which companies have the possibility of hiring the institution to manage their entire selection process. Organizations such as Gerdau, PK Elevadores (formerly ThyssenKrupp), Lojas Renner and SAP, for example, use this service. “When opening a vacancy, the PUCRS Carreiras team selects the appropriate profiles for the opportunity. At the end of this process, the entire contract is carried out through the portal”, comments Katia.

In addition to the significant increase in job offers and growth in the employability of its students, as well as the reduction of operational processes and the creation of new sources of income, PUCRS Carreiras strengthened its brand by approaching the market, students and community.

To date, the portal has operated, since March 2019, when the services were unified and the tool was implemented, around 15,000 internship contracts; 6,300 career consulting services; 1,100 member companies; 82 third-party integrator agents and 610 companies served with integration agent services.

In addition to PUCRS, another 20 educational institutions use Valorizza Desenvolvimento's career portal. “In a country where there is a 50% dropout rate in higher education, according to the MEC (Ministry of Education), it is of paramount importance that educational institutions provide a foundation for their students to continue their studies through employability and the careers portal. from Valorizza, supported by GeneXus, acts as a support for universities to develop this aptitude”, concludes Ricardo Recchi, country manager at GeneXus Brazil.
