Gartner, a world leader in technology research and advice, says that mobile payments are increasingly gaining acceptance among consumers in North America, Japan and some Western European countries. According to the Institute, it is expected that by 2018, half of consumers in mature markets will use smartphones or wearable technologies to make payments.

“Innovation in mobile apps, devices and services is impacting traditional business models, especially the way people use technology for personal productivity and leisure. Product managers need to understand who the consumers of these new devices and services are. , and how they are being used. Knowing the customer is critical to taking advantage of consumer opportunities in this dynamic industry," says Amanda Sabia, Research Analyst at Gartner.

Gartner also announces two other predictions for the personal technologies segment:

– By 2018, 75% of TV content will be watched through app-based services – as mature markets spend more time watching TV with apps, more households will start pushing pay TVs.

– Pay TV operators will have to provide app-based functionality for their content so that they can remain competitive in a growing culture of in-app TV viewing.
