The cities chosen by the program will receive a high-capacity optical fiber network to connect public bodies and points of free access to the Internet by the population. The goal is to modernize city hall management and facilitate access to state services.
Minha Cidade Inteligente will also bring technological solutions to municipalities to allow efficient monitoring of areas such as public lighting, transport and security, as explained by the secretary of Digital Inclusion, Américo Bernardes: "A smart city is one in which services are in place that allow monitoring the life of the city and the citizen can take ownership of this operation. We envisage some services such as monitoring and surveillance systems, vehicle fleet sensing, public transport and public lighting", he says.
The big difference in this edition is that there is no longer any exclusivity of resources for small and poor cities. The program will give preference to those that already have their own optical fiber networks, among other criteria that point to this fundamental change in the orientation of projects.
In addition to not using the criterion of low human development index, there is also no longer exclusivity to cities with up to 80,000 inhabitants. the program creates three groups, small cities (up to 100,000 inhabitants), medium (from 100,000 to 1 million) and large (over 1 million) and defines that the smallest will have 30% of the program's budget; the medium ones, 50%, and the large ones, 20%. There is also no reference to values. To know more, check the notice.
