In the innovative scenario of ABES SUMMIT 2024, Alexandre Modonezi, Secretary of the Municipal Secretariat of Subprefectures of São Paulo, presented the Smart Caretaking Project for Resilient Cities carried out in the capital of São Paulo. Invited by AlmavivA Solutions/-Magna Sistemas, Modonezi shared the history of the implementation of the system and the evolution of the project, started in 2017, which aims at more effective and intelligent urban management, aligned with the concept of Smart City.

The city of São Paulo, with its 31 sub-prefectures, faced the challenge of managing its vast territories using manual and paper-based processes. “Imagine a city of this size working 100% on paper,” commented Modonezi, highlighting the complexity and need for modernization. It was in this context that the Janitorial Management System (SGZ) emerged, an innovative platform designed to redesign the relationship between citizens and public services.

Currently, the SGZ centralizes requests for urban services, transforming them into service orders based on the population’s needs. The platform provides a notable and continuous improvement in the effectiveness of services. One of the highlights is Operation Tapaburaco: the average service time was reduced from 121 days in 2017 to just 10 days. In tree management, the timeframe dropped from 507 to 55 days. “The population’s confidence has increased, because we are certain that the citizen is the priority,” Modonezi emphasized.

Monitoring of flood points

Another significant benefit was the identification of flooding points. The City Hall currently also has a predictive system that uses weather information for maintenance actions. The system uses artificial intelligence to purify data made available in various climate databases and monitors all basins, 48 reservoirs, centralizing the monitoring of rainfall, drainage, reservoir operations and water runoff. Today, it is possible to carry out more proactive maintenance routines focused on prevention. Teams equipped with a predictive system use weather data to anticipate problems and optimize resources.

More recently, SGZ has been integrated into the Smart Sampa, an innovative project that, in addition to offering greater security to the population, is also allowing the integration of several public service bodies to provide greater agility in serving citizens, through the integration of actions by CET, SPTrans, CPTM, Metrô, SAMU, as well as the Metropolitan Civil Guard and the Military and Civil Police, among other bodies, through a modern and intelligent Monitoring Center.

With this successful case, São Paulo is at the forefront of urban technology, reinforcing its commitment to the continuous improvement of public services through innovation and technology. As a result of these actions, the capital of São Paulo was elected the third most intelligent and connected city in Brazil, according to a survey by Connected Smart Cities 2023 Ranking. The city occupies the first position in the Mobility and Accessibility axis.
