Due to the rapid growth of the municipality, located near Santiago, the administration of Padre Hurtado seeks, with the help of technology, to guarantee the safety of the population of more than 70 thousand inhabitants. The Japanese multinational will be responsible for the integration of the project, which includes the readaptation of the existing Command and Control Center, in addition to image analysis solutions, a panic button system, among other resources.

Currently, with around 78 thousand inhabitants, 15 thousand more than what was registered in the last Population and Housing Census, carried out in 2017, the peaceful municipality of Father Hurtado, located in the metropolitan region of Santiago, capital of Chile, has experienced, along with the demographic leap, the impacts of population growth on the security of its citizens. For this reason, the administration of the commune (as this type of urban densification is called in the country) established with the NEC, a Japanese multinational technology company, a contract to implement a public safety project.

The agreement includes the refurbishment of the existing Command and Control Center (CCC), responsible for managing all systems involved in the project, and the adoption of a series of solutions, such as: 50 multisensory camera points for capturing 360° images; 20 totems with two-way intercom, camera, light, Wi-Fi and megaphone, in order to issue a sound alert if necessary; ten cars with a camera structure to capture images in the commune's territory; the App Patrol technological solution, an application that sends security warnings from the Command and Control Center directly to the tablets used by municipal agents' cars; 12 cameras for detecting vehicle license plates in real time; the Citizens' App, an application that allows residents to generate alerts for municipal services, with the possibility of adding photos, videos and text; a drone; as well as 1,500 emergency devices with a panic button system, capable of creating voice communication, immediately communicating with the police authorities.

In order for all these technologies to converge and the data generated by them to be used efficiently, NEC will deploy its CitySensAI platform, which uses Artificial Intelligence and Analytics to integrate public services, such as police, firefighters, ambulances, among others, in addition to receiving alert messages issued by applications and the panic button system.

Second Felipe Muñoz, Mayor of Padre Hurtado, the project will allow the integration of services that operate in the city and, consequently, improve the operationalization of local security. “The most important part of this agreement that we have reached with NEC is that all data generated by the new technologies adopted, such as cameras and IoT (Internet of Things) systems, will be analyzed by the company’s intelligent platform. This saves time and efficiency, while eliminating the possibility of human error, given that operators at the Command and Control Center will not have the responsibility of monitoring everything that occurs on several monitors simultaneously. I am certain that the implementation of these solutions will offer the population of Padre Hurtado a high level of security and the feeling that they are truly being taken care of,” says Muñoz.

NEC's experience in implementing smart city projects within Latin America, according to Jorge Vargas, VP of NEC's DGDF business unit in Latin America, is an important factor in choosing the company as a technology partner for new businesses in this segment in the region. “We have cases of Smart Cities that have become a reference in Latin countries, with emphasis on those developed in Chile and Argentina. Our differential is the technological potential of the CitySensAI integrative platform, the ecosystem of partners to supply the equipment that makes up the solution and the expertise of our team of specialists, who work to format solutions tailored to the needs of our customers”, emphasizes Vargas.
