Disused technology equipment was sent for recycling. In return, the batch of computers already recycled that the company received will be donated to entities that train visually impaired people for the job market.
In February of this year, ABES - Brazilian Association of Software Companies, in partnership with the Third Sector Observatory Institute and ReUrbi, launched the ReciTech program with the objective of offering reverse logistics services for the disposal of technology and telecommunications equipment in disuse to generate materials that will be reinserted in the production chain, with economic, environmental and social returns. The action also supports digital inclusion and training projects, through donations of reconditioned equipment, and is aligned with the purpose of contributing to the construction of a more digital and less unequal Brazil, in which information technology plays a fundamental role for the democratization of knowledge and the creation of new opportunities, aiming at a better quality of life for all, in an inclusive and equal way.
Therefore, MicroPower, an associate of ABES, was the first to contribute to the action. The company sent 91 disused equipment for recycling, including monitors, notebooks, CPUs, mice, keyboards, chargers, power cables, batteries, among others. The devices had been unused for approximately two years and stored in a warehouse.
“With the sending of the equipment for recycling, we received, in return from ReUrbi, a batch of recycled and in-use computers. These computers can be forwarded, in lending, to entities that the MicroPower Institute supports to train and include visually impaired people in the job market ”, explains Milka Musulin Soeltl, HR and Finance Director of the associate.
The donation made by MicroPower has already generated a positive environmental impact, avoiding 945 kg of greenhouse gases and 6 kg of toxic metals in the environment.
In addition to making entrepreneurs and their employees aware of the correct disposal of their equipment and complying with Environmental Legislation and IT security, the ReciTech program aims to generate a positive impact on the environment and society, in line with the best environmental, social and environmental practices. governance (ESG), bringing financial results to be used in social inclusion and qualification projects.
“The ReciTech program comes to ensure free, simple and easy for companies, regardless of their size, to adhere to the best social and environmental governance practices, in line with the UN Global Compact. In addition to the program offering an adequate purpose for products in disuse, protecting the environment, it will contribute to social inclusion and qualification ”, emphasizes Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES.
According to Joel Scala, director of the Third Sector Observatory, one of the main concerns of the institute is to bring together various public and private agents to contribute to the development of society and reduce inequality in the country. "This partnership represents the way for organizations to respond to the moment of difficulty caused by the pandemic".
The year 2020 showed society and companies that we need to improve our relationship with the environment a lot and that access to education and employability necessarily involves digital inclusion, this is the path to a more just and inclusive society. “Through the Reverse Logistics process and recycling of disused electronic equipment, we avoid the emission of more than 2,460,000 kg of greenhouse gases and more than 15,330 kg of toxic metals. This important partnership with ABES will make it possible to increase these results, which are so important for the environment and access to technology through the growth of the more than 80 socio-digital inclusion projects already served by our company ”, concludes Ronaldo Stabile, CEO of ReUrbi.
