The Association joins a group of over 1,300 corporations that are part of the Global Compact, consolidating its performance in promoting good corporate practices in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals
ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies announces its adhesion to the Global Compact Network Brazil, linked to the UN Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, which aims to mobilize the business community in the adoption and promotion of good corporate practices. The objective of ABES, by joining Rede Brasil, is to mobilize its associates and the business community in the adoption and promotion, in its business practices, of Ten Principles universally accepted in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. .
Created in 2003, Rede Brasil responds to the headquarters of the Global Compact, in New York, and presides over the Council of Local Networks in Latin America. The projects conducted in the country are developed through Action Platforms (Action for Water, Action for Sustainable Agro, Action for Human Rights, Action for Climate, Action against Corruption, Action for the Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs - and Action to Communicate and Engage) and International Programs. Around 40 initiatives are currently underway, with the involvement of hundreds of companies, as well as UN agencies and government agencies.
ABES's entry into Rede Brasil validates the promotion of initiatives that aim to promote the best ESG practices, in line with the SDGs, in front of its members and the market in general. Last year, the entity avoided the impact of 47 tons of greenhouse gases and 296 kg of toxic metals to the environment by properly recycling 25 tons of obsolete ICT equipment. It is the result of the mobilization for the reduction of inequality promoted by ABES in partnership with ReUrbi and Observatório do Terceiro Setor, and with the support of Weber Shandwick, whose objective is to support socio-digital inclusion projects through resources obtained through the recycling of equipments. Each ton recycled has the potential to impact 600 people.
Another important initiative led by ABES is An Ethics Company, whose purpose is to encourage the adoption of the highest ethical standards in dealing with internal or external matters; improving processes and procedures, following the best international practices. The initiative offers training on compliance with a certificate of participation, a Whistleblower Channel and a Model Code of Ethics and Conduct, which can be adapted to a wide range of activities and business models. More than 200 certificates have already been issued.
“This is an important achievement for ABES. As an entity, we have a lot to contribute to the 10 goals of the Pact, as well as the 17 SDGs. And, as we remain firm in our purpose, which is to contribute to the construction of a digital and less unequal Brazil, in which information technology plays a fundamental role in the democratization of knowledge, being part of Rede Brasil will increasingly help us to ensure a business environment conducive to innovation, ethical, dynamic, sustainable and globally competitive, with the creation of new opportunities for all, always in an inclusive and egalitarian way”, declares Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES.
