In the era of digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a powerful ally, driving innovation in a variety of sectors. Its growing presence in public and private organizations raises fundamental questions about the ethics and safety of its application. It is in this context that responsible artificial intelligence gains prominence, ensuring that the technology is adopted in an ethical and socially beneficial manner.

That's why ABES and BSA – The Software Alliance launch a guide for board leaders. This material seeks to support the evolution and reinforce the importance of responsible AI, encouraging the formulation of questions that ensure that the technology is integrated in a way that respects ethical values and is aligned with the company's strategic objectives, encouraging an approach that demands that organizations develop an internal culture focused on the topic, addressing central issues that can guide a conscious and balanced adoption.

According Antonio Eduardo Mendes Da Silva (Pitanga), Country Manager of BSA in Brazil, “boards need to be proactive in questioning and examining the AI approaches adopted internally and in their products, processes and services. This will significantly impact the success of the company”. Eduardo Paranhos, leader of the ABES AI WG, adds that “the board of directors has an essential role in determining appropriate governance for AI, ensuring that initiatives are in sync with established ethical standards”.

Awareness to mitigate risks with AI

The need for responsible AI is heightened as we recognize the risks associated with its careless use, such as algorithmic biases and potential human rights violations. To mitigate these risks, promoting transparency, fairness, and equity in the application of AI has become vital.

The launch of this guide represents a joint effort to raise awareness among leaders about the need for robust AI governance. The initiative by ABES and BSA aims to encourage reflection and discussion on best practices, contributing to the development of a positive and progressive agenda in AI governance. In a world increasingly dependent on artificial intelligence, this advancement represents a significant step towards ethical and safe adoption, benefiting society as a whole.
