This Tuesday (03/10), Clara Savelli, Project Coordinator at ABES, participated in the 1st International Open Innovation Case Congress, an event that is part of the Rio Innovation Week program, in the panel on Innovation in ESG, and presented to the public The Mobilization for Inequality Reduction. This initiative aims to support social inclusion projects that promote training in the digital area, through resources obtained by recycling and reconditioning IT equipment (notebooks, PCs, racks, etc.) discarded by companies that join the project. This action is conducted through a partnership with ReUrbi and the Third Sector Observatory, with support from the communications agency Weber Shandwick.

Since 2021, the Mobilization for the Reduction of Inequality has already recycled 191 tons, generating resources that will impact the lives of more than 36 thousand people, and avoiding releasing 362 tons of greenhouse gases and 2 tons of toxic metals into the environment. “The benefits of Mobilization go beyond environmental sustainability. By promoting socio-digital inclusion, this initiative has positively transformed the lives of thousands of people. Part of the equipment is refurbished and loaned to NGOs that promote digital training. In doing so, we help provide access to technology to those who were previously digitally excluded. This means educational opportunities, access to the job market and greater social participation”, highlights Clara Savelli.

ABES was part of the panel at the Open Innovation Congress, which featured the presentation of other cases: Women in Tech for women in the North (Plure); Open Innovation in Carioca Communities: Connecting Startups, NGOs, Government and Private Initiatives for Technological and Social Development (Future Innovation); Facilitating partnerships between Brazilian startups and Swedish corporations (CISB); and Escale-se Program (Escale-se).

ABES and ESG

Recently, the association joined the National Pact to Combat Inequalities (the movement is coordinated by ABCD – Brazilian Action to Combat Inequalities) and, since the beginning of 2022, has been part of the Brazil Network of the UN Global Compact, when it committed to effectively contributing to 8 of the 17 SDGs of the Global Compact. Rodolfo Fücher, president of the ABES board, also followed the debates in person at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, an event promoted by the United Nations in New York, which brought together leaders to discuss measures to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
