On stage at the ABES SUMMIT 2024, held by ABES, international guest Chris Perry, Chief Innovation Officer and President of Weber Shandwick Futures, highlighted the importance of a change in mindset in the context of technological innovation. During his presentation, Perry emphasized that true innovation goes beyond the simple application of new technologies: it involves a transformation in the way we approach and perceive these transformations.
In his assessment, it is essential to prioritize the human agenda over the purely technological agenda. “We need to rethink our perspective on technological transformations to ensure that they truly serve humanity,” Perry said. He highlighted the importance of asking meaningful questions, not only when exploring new ideas, but also when analyzing their potential positive and negative impacts. “Critical questioning is an essential skill for companies that want to be truly innovative,” he added.
Furthermore, Perry stressed the urgent need for professionals to actively engage in discussions on regulation and ethics in technology, especially when it comes to artificial intelligence. “Without a robust regulatory approach, we risk facing unintended consequences,” he warned.
Evolution of Media and Education
In his talk, Perry also addressed the evolution of media and the way we consume information, noting that the transition from traditional television to social media exemplifies profound changes in communication and human connections. According to him, this transformation is also reflected in the education sector, where traditional institutions face challenges in adapting to new demands.
One point of concern highlighted was the use of manipulated images in the digital age, which increases the challenges of disinformation. “In an environment saturated with distorted images and narratives, it becomes increasingly difficult to discern the truth,” Perry warned, referring to the increasing complexity of distinguishing between reality and fiction in the contemporary digital world.
The introduction of AI tools can improve employee satisfaction and productivity, but companies need to lead the change by empowering their teams to use these technologies responsibly and effectively.
