In recent years, OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) have become a true game-changer for technology companies around the world. And, to be honest, who would have thought that a seemingly simple strategic management methodology could bring about so many profound and measurable changes? As someone who has been implementing this methodology in several companies for years, I can say that the results speak for themselves.

BetaHauss’ experience with OKRs is an excellent example of this. We have applied this methodology in our own company, which has allowed us to significantly expand our horizons. We were founded 6 years ago and currently serve clients in three countries, eight Brazilian states, and have over 100 corporate companies in our portfolio. This would not have been possible without the clarity and alignment that OKRs have provided us. And best of all: the impact is not just institutional. Personally, OKRs have shaped the way I see work, boosting my career and helping me achieve goals that previously seemed unattainable.

Interestingly, many technology companies try to implement OKRs on their own, without the guidance of experts. This is like trying to cook a sophisticated recipe without following the instructions: the result may be acceptable, but it is unlikely to be a dish worthy of praise. The irony is that, although the methodology seems simple, its effective implementation requires deep understanding and practical experience. It is no surprise that so many companies get lost trying to do it all alone. This was one of the most valuable lessons I learned when visiting companies in China and the United States, where OKRs are applied in a rigorous and disciplined way. There, it became clear that the combination of methodology and governance, two pillars that we reinforce in our proprietary OKR methodology[35], is essential for success. OKR[35] goes beyond the basics, integrating a methodological vertical, a governance vertical, and a culture vertical. This holistic approach ensures that OKRs are not just a passing fad, but a tool for long-term transformation.

Our extensive experience with technology companies allows us to see the positive impact of OKRs firsthand. We have seen impressive results, from significant improvements in productivity to greater capacity for innovation. Companies that adopt OKRs seriously are able to not only align their teams, but also accelerate their ability to respond to market changes.

ABES is a clear example of this. Applying OKRs to the industry association allowed for a clearer and more focused vision of objectives, aligning the various initiatives that previously followed uncoordinated directions. Now, with everyone pulling in the same direction, the results will not only be more noticeable, but continuous.

In short, OKRs have the power to transform technology companies, as long as they are applied with the right expertise. At BetaHauss, we believe that the success of any organization, whether a startup or a giant in the sector, begins with clarity of its objectives and the determination to achieve them. And, with OKRs, this clarity is within everyone's reach, as long as they know where to seek the necessary support. After all, who has never found themselves lost trying to assemble a piece of furniture without following the manual? In business, as in life, it is worth investing in the right guidance.
