In May, NEC and Celonis began a proof of concept to integrate the Japanese multinational's high-performance generative artificial intelligence into the company's leading process intelligence platform based in Germany and the United States. This proof of concept is being carried out as part of a strategic partnership announced in 2023 (*) and makes NEC the first Japanese company to work on the integration of generative artificial intelligence and process intelligence.

Last year, NEC began testing the combination of its artificial intelligence and process mining technology with people whose native language is Japanese. By utilizing generative AI, even individuals without specialized process mining knowledge could benefit from near real-time process intelligence and analyze business operations using Japanese language. Furthermore, it was confirmed that commercial operations were improved, such as the reduction in delays in order management and subsequent operations due to rework.

Building on early success, the companies are now further integrating NEC's generative artificial intelligence with Celonis' process mining technology, enabling users without process mining experience to quickly visualize and analyze business processes through conversations in natural language via NEC's generative AI, without the need to read large amounts of text.

“The strategic partnership between NEC and Celonis continues to be of enormous importance to our customers in Japan. Combining NEC's generative artificial intelligence and Celonis' process intelligence will empower more people to identify process optimization opportunities and accelerate transformation of business. Together, we continue to help our clients drive positive impact across all areas, including revenue, costs and sustainability,” he says. Bastian Nominacher, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Celonis.

“To grow in a rapidly changing market, companies are accelerating their digital transformation efforts. Combining Celonis' process intelligence with the speed and high performance of NEC's generative AI will enable the creation of advanced consulting services offerings that accelerate decision-making and improve companies' access to analytical capabilities. We believe this will contribute to achieving a high-quality digital transformation in a short time. We are already putting this into practice within NEC and are confident that the results and know-how will positively impact our customers. NEC will work with Celonis to create rapid, data-driven, objective-based suggestions and improvements to support customer business reforms and advancements.” said Toshifumi Yoshizaki, Senior VP and CDO of NEC Corporation.

Looking ahead, NEC and Celonis will continue to strengthen their partnership and enable business process analytics and business transformation while leveraging Celonis process intelligence and NEC generative AI.
