Global research highlights trends in Immersive Technologies, acceleration of automation of Artificial Intelligence and optimization of the delivery of products, services and solutions
O Gartner, a world leader in research and advice for companies, announces the results of the Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies 2022, research that highlights emerging technologies to watch in the coming years. The survey highlights the trends that allow the evolution and expansion of immersive experiences, the acceleration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) automation and the optimization of the delivery of products, services and solutions.
“Emerging technologies offer transformational potential for enterprises, but right now, CIOs and innovation leaders are still being challenged to scale digital capabilities while improving sustainability in the face of expanding resource constraints,” comments Melissa Davis, Vice President Analyst at Gartner. “It is essential for organizations to cut through the noise around emerging technologies to accelerate change, leveraging new developments that drive competitive differentiation and efficiency.”
The Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies is unique research among Gartner's Hype Cycles, as it identifies key insights across more than two thousand applied solutions and frameworks presented by Gartner annually in a succinct set of “must-see” emerging technologies and trends. The report assesses innovations that have the potential to provide a high degree of competitive advantage over the next two to 10 years.
“All of the Hype Cycle technologies are at an early stage, but some are nascent and there is uncertainty about how they will evolve. These new features present risks for implementation, but potentially benefits for early adopters, who can evaluate and explore them based on their organization's ability to deal with unproven innovations”, says Gary Olliffe, vice president analyst at Gartner.
Three emerging technology trend themes:
1. Evolving and expanding immersive experiences – A collection of emerging technologies supports these innovations through dynamic virtual representations, environments and ecosystems of customers and people, as well as new modes of user engagement. With these innovations, individuals can control their own identities and data and experience virtual ecosystems that can be integrated with digital currencies. Such tools help you reach customers in different ways to strengthen or open up other revenue streams. Technologies to watch that deliver evolving and expanding immersive experiences are Metaverse, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), Super Apps and Web3, decentralized identity, digital humans, customer Digital Twins, and internal talent marketplaces.
2. Accelerated Artificial Intelligence Automation – The adoption of Artificial Intelligence is expanding as an integral part of products, services and solutions. This is accelerating the creation of specialized AI models that can be applied to automate model development, training, and deployment. Artificial Intelligence automation refocuses the role of humans in the development of Artificial Intelligence, resulting in more accurate predictions and decisions and faster time to expected benefits. Technologies that support accelerated AI automation are autonomous systems, causal AI, base models, generative design AI, and machine learning code generation.
3. Optimized delivery of technologists – Successful digital businesses are built, not bought. A set of emerging technologies focuses on communities of product, service, and solution builders, such as fusion teams and the platforms they use. These capabilities provide feedback and insights that optimize and accelerate the delivery of products, services and solutions and increase the sustainability of business operations. Critical innovations that are optimizing technologists' delivery are augmented FinOps, Cloud data ecosystems, Cloud sustainability, compute storage, cybersecurity mesh architecture, data observability, dynamic risk governance, industry Cloud platforms, architecture minimum viable, observability-driven development, OpenTelemetry and platform engineering.
