ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies – will hold an International Roundtable – Benchmark on privacy: recent cases in Brazil, Europe and the United States, on June 16, at 10 am. The event will bring together experts such as Dominique Shelton Leipzig, partner at the Perkins Coie firm in the United States; Leonie Power, partner at the Fieldfisher UK office so they can share their knowledge, best practices and qualified analysis on the implementation of the General Data Protection Act (LGPD). Entries must be made here and participation is free.

In addition, the conversation will also have the presence of Eduardo Paranhos, founding partner of EPG Advogados and Coordinator of the ABES Artificial Intelligence Committee. “Even before the articles referring to administrative sanctions came into force, the LGPD has already been cited in court decisions. In this roundtable, we will debate with colleagues from the United States and Europe some recent cases, hoping to contribute to the evolution of the data protection culture.”, pointed out Eduardo Paranhos. Loren Spíndola, Manager of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, IBM Brasil, and Coordinator of the ABES Artificial Intelligence Committee will act as moderator.

“Since the GDPR became applicable in May 2018, companies have had to translate their legislation into practical measures to be able to comply with them. And today, there are a lot of challenges around that. At this meeting, we will be able to discuss the trends and priorities for the application of these regulations in the European Union and the United Kingdom, taking into account some of the lessons of EU jurisprudence and the regulatory decisions that were applied”, says Leonie Power.

“The data is global. Technology is critical to the global economy. I look forward to sharing strategies on how an organized approach to managing data across borders can strengthen a company's brand, value and trust. My ideas from California, the strictest state in the US, will be designed to help them lead the global privacy and data protection strategy,” says Dominique Shelton Leipzig.

The association is committed to providing more and more content and services to its members and partners, with the purpose of contributing to the construction of a digital and less unequal Brazil, in which information technology plays a fundamental role for the democratization of knowledge and the creation of new opportunities for all, in an inclusive and equal way. Therefore, ABES has acted to ensure a business environment conducive to innovation, ethical, dynamic, sustainable and globally competitive.
