Data are part of ABES's Brazilian Software and Services Market study, in partnership with IDC

The global balance of IT investments increased by 2% in 2016, compared to the previous year, reaching US$ 2.03 trillion. In Brazil, investments in this sector slowed down, suffering a direct impact from the economic crisis and the appreciation of the dollar in the period, totaling US$ 38 billion, a decrease of 3.6% in relation to 2015.

For 2017, the forecast is for a recovery in the sector's growth in Brazil in the order of 6.7%, double the growth forecast for the world. The data are part of the annual study “Brazilian Market for Software and Services” by ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies), in partnership with IDC (International Data Corporation).

For the first time in 12 years, since the survey started being done by ABES, Brazil lost two positions in the world ranking and went from 7th to 9th place. Since the first survey, in 2005, the country has remained in seventh position. In the context of Latin America, however, the Brazilian market remains the leader in investments in the sector, which represent 36.5% of the total of US$ 105.3 billion.

“The recession had a direct impact on results and the rise in the dollar pushed the sector's numbers downwards. Even though Brazil presented a drop in investments, it still occupies an important place, being in the same group of countries as Germany, the United States and France, which shows the relevance of the internal IT market ”, points out Jorge Sukarie, president of the ABES Board .

In the last four years, the geographic distribution of investments in Brazil has shown a significant advance. Although the Southeast region is still the leader with 61% (65% in 2012), the North increased from 2% to 6%, the Northeast increased by 3 percentage points, reaching 11% and the South reached 13%, compared to 12% in 2012. The Midwest was the the only region that showed a drop, from 13% to 9%.
