The event will bring together executives from Facebook, IBM, EPG Advogados and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation on September 29, at 9 am

ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies – will hold, through the initiative of its Artificial Intelligence Committee, the International Roundtable on AI regulation: an experience under construction, on September 29, at 9 am, to debate and show the different perspectives from different regions of the world on the subject. Free entries can be made here, the event will have simultaneous translation and also in pounds, and if you are unable to follow that day, the debate will be available on the association's Youtube channel.

To bring international perspectives to the discussion, the meeting will feature the participation of Portuguese Norberto de Andrade, Global Policy Lead for Digital and AI Ethics from Facebook, “it is important to address the issue of regulation of Artificial Intelligence due to the challenges that this technology poses, both from a technical, as a legal and social point of view, and by the need to strengthen a regulatory framework that can maximize the enormous benefits that AI can provide”.

The US scenario will be presented by Roslyn Docktor, IBM Technology Policy Director, “AI is an incredibly powerful technology and stakeholders, government and academia share a deep responsibility to promote its use in ways that are transparent, fair and trustworthy. IBM urges governments around the world to adopt precision regulatory approaches to AI that put tighter control over its end uses that may pose a greater risk to society, as well as requiring polarization testing and disclosure in order to AI does not exacerbate existing inequality. Resources must also be provided so that organizations of all sizes – not just large corporations – can responsibly deploy AI.”

The Brazilian panorama will be discussed by Loren Spíndola, Manager of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs at IBM Brasil and Coordinator of the ABES Artificial Intelligence Committee. “I believe the regulatory effort we are seeing around the world is a response to the expansion of AI adoption, at different levels and sectors. While AI promises to provide valuable insights and insights into a multitude of applications, widespread adoption of AI systems will depend heavily on the ability to trust its results. In this sense, it is essential to create standards and codes of conduct, and define clear guidelines for the development of an ethical and responsible AI”, explains the executive.

In addition, the debate will include the presence of Eliana Emediato, General Coordinator of Digital Transformation at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. She believes that Artificial Intelligence offers an immense opportunity to benefit people around the world, “but as AI technology increasingly impacts society, we also need to ensure the responsible use and development of AI, ensuring that people are treated fairly, with protection of their safety and respect for their privacy, which is why it is important to follow the debates on regulation”, he says.

The event will be moderated by Eduardo Paranhos, founding partner of EPG Advogados and Coordinator of the ABES Artificial Intelligence Committee. “The AI legal environment is in full evolution, not only in Brazil, but also in several countries. Understanding the international experience is an important part of the debate for advancing the local agenda on the subject”, highlighted the executive.

The association is committed to providing more and more content and services to its members and partners, with the purpose of contributing to the construction of a digital and less unequal Brazil, in which information technology plays a fundamental role for the democratization of knowledge and the creation of new opportunities for all, in an inclusive and equal way. Therefore, ABES has acted to ensure a business environment conducive to innovation, ethical, dynamic, sustainable and globally competitive.
