Biannual monitoring report shows an increase in the number of links with content that violates Copyright and Intellectual Property removed

ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies removed from the web, in the first half of 2021, 59,779 advertisements, links and sites with content that gave access to files that violate the Copyright and Intellectual Property of the entity's members. The action has been taking place since 2005 and is carried out through the work of the Association's Internet Monitoring Sector. With this, ABES has already managed to overthrow more than 835,000 illegal contents since the beginning of monitoring.

As of June of this year, ABES counted 58,154 links removed for violating intellectual property rights, and 1,563 advertisements promoting pirated products were removed from the air. In addition, the entity was responsible for taking down 62 websites that offered illegal software downloads.

This year's balance sheet points to an increase of 189% in the number of removed links compared to the same period in 2020. “In recent years we have seen that auction sites have invested a lot in efficient actions and partnerships against piracy, so we decided to focus more in removing links hosted on the internet, which have a great impact on piracy as a whole”, says Carolina Marzano, Compliance Officer and advisor to ABES committees.

ABES continuously monitors the internet and directly notifies its own e-commerce portals and access providers. This action is intended to protect consumers, who may be exposed to viruses, malware and data hijacking when accessing illegal content. This monitoring is carried out through the PPPI – Intellectual Property Protection Program, of the Free Market, which was founded with the association 18 years ago. “We count on the efficiency of this program to assure our associates and everyone who has access to the internet, a business environment conducive to innovation, dynamic, globally competitive, and above all ethical. Totally aligned with the entity's purpose, of contributing to the construction of a digital and less unequal Brazil”, says Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES.

In addition to the PPPI, within the objectives of ABES, the entity also promotes ethical integrity among its members through the An Ethical Company program, which encourages and offers its members free of charge the means to implement the three essential pillars of an integrity and compliance policy. legal framework: the elaboration and implementation of a code of ethics; compliance training for employees and the adoption of an independent whistleblower channel.
